We've all been there. Clients in the car, distractions and of course the inevitable not really knowing where you're going because you've never previewed the property, let alone traveled to the neighborhood. You've printed out the MLS sheets, arranged them in showing order, attempted to space them out appropriately so you're not late to the next appointment. But all too often we overlook the obvious, mapping the real route. 9 times out of 10, we look like a bumbling fools who are green around the gills, and have no idea where the homes are located, which leave your clients questioning your true ability to even write a contract!
Fear NOT! For those of you who are fighting technology, the Apple Watch (or any smart watch for that matter) provide fairly intuitive set up and give users a distinct edge on navigating without a road map.
For this article, I'll focus on the Apple Watch because it's what I wear and use on a daily basis. The Apple Watch comes in 2 sizes, the 38mm and the 42mm. Mine is the smaller, more discrete style.
Bands are interchangeable and the newest Apple Watch 3 is waterproof.
WHY I LOVE THE WATCH...
Most of us use our smart phones to converse with clients and other agents via text or email. And with that little interaction, your phone grabs snippets of these conversations, i.e. property addresses. So this is how it works (after the initial set up of pairing the watch to your smart phone):
1. Open the native "map" app on your phone.
2. Type in the address. The really cool thing is, since you've most likely typed that address in previously it becomes predictive text and will auto populate as a choice!
3. Click the correct address.
4. Drive....
HOW IT WORKS...
OK, so now what? You're driving along and the watch taps your wrist when you are approaching a turn. A big arrow points in the direction where you're supposed to turn. That's the brunt of it. More detailed, the watch will show the distance and street name and direction to be turned prior to the tapping alert. The process is so simple, I looked like a seasoned resident driving home the first time I used it to navigate to an unknown address. I've had clients ask how many times I've shown properties because I always appear to know where I'm going. And further more, instead of being distracted by conversations in the car and worrying about missing a turn, now I'm in full control. I'm able to tell clients about the properties we are driving to preview, answer any questions about surrounding areas and community info. The Apple Watch paired with the iPhone are my absolute favorite business tools of the year!
