Yesterday, I received an offer on one of my listings. Towards the end of the email it stated, “You have been fantastic to communicate with--I can't tell you how much I appreciate that!” I didn’t think much about it at the time, I was busy reviewing the offer and discussing it with my client. A little later, these words sunk in. Yes, I strive to always answer my phone and emails in a timely manner. If I’m with another client and my phone rings, I’ll text the person calling and let them know I will be in touch ASAP. It’s my duty to my client to put their best interests above my own. Sure, sometimes I wish I could un-plug for a bit, turn my phone off and just relax. However, I do not. My communication lines are always open, if they weren’t it could cost my clients a sale.
Recently, I was looking for a home for myself. There was a new build community in East Austin that interested me. I filled out a form requesting more information from their website. I received no information, and no one reached out to me in regards to the community. I called, reached an automatic system, and left a message. Two days later, I still hadn’t heard from this community. I continued to call, and inquire online. Two weeks later one of the representatives finally called me back. By then, it was too late, I’d already found a home.
Similar scenarios occur every day. When I can’t even reach an agent to schedule a showing at one of their listings, it’s highly unlikely my client will be making an offer on the home. Sure, we are all busy- juggling multiple deals and multiple clients at a time. Maybe you need to unplug from time to time. That’s ok, but someone should be answering your phone calls and emails. After all, if you’re failing to communicate, are you really looking out for your client’s best interests?
