Peninsula friends of the library

The mission of the Peninsula Friends of the Library is to raise funds to support the Palos Verdes Library District and to build community awareness and enthusiasm for PVLD services, programs and needs. This is an all volunteer organization, which started in 1961 to enhance our libraries services and programs, and currently provides 5% ($400,000) of the library’s budget and has over 800 friends to ensure the library district can continue it’s vital programs and services. These funds support many of the libraries program including:

Sunday hours at the Peninsula Center Library which allows local students to use the facility.
Summer Reading Program which benefits all age groups, especially young children.
Internet and Wi-Fi access at all three libraries.
Library newsletters & Story time programs.
Special purchases of items for the library collections, furnishings, and equipment.
The Annex, a safe meeting place for teens after school hours.
eBooks, eMagazines, and subscriptions to online services
Monthly movie screenings, concerts, and community events
Library Gift Shop
On-line language programs, used book sales and more.

Equally important, the Friends support a volunteer program of nearly 150 individuals who together give more than 24,000 hours of their time each year. In addition to working in the Library Shop and helping with the Used Book Sales, volunteers organize Books for Troops and give countless hours of their time repairing, shelving, and cataloging books.
