Did You Remember to Turn the Wipers Off?

We've had soooo much rain here the last couple of weeks.  I don't think there's been a day that I drove without having to use the wipers. I've gotten so used to having them on and having that noise be a part of my 4Runner's sound that I've learned to tune that sound out and ignore the constant interruption to my line of sight.    It's just part of living right here at this point in time.

When I arrived home last night at close to 7 pm and killed the engine, I did not turn the wipers off, after all it was raining.  When I started the 4Runner this morning, the wipers continued swishing back and forth and I drove to town.  These wipers do not squeak or drag when working so it sounded normal for the last few days.   I drove for a couple of miles before it dawned on me that the wipers were on.

The problem is that IT WAS NOT RAINING.

My windshield wipers weren't needed because the issue they dealt with for me was not an issue today.

Sometimes we put systems in place for our business, set it up on automatic payment and kinda' forget about itAt least, I've done that... maybe you haven't.  Most of our business is done in McCurtain County but I'm still paying for one particular database service in Choctaw County.  The two counties are tied together on the service and the billing.  I've been meaning to change that up and kept forgetting to.

After all, it's a nominal fee on my card and I'm always busy when I happen to think about it..

I made time recently though, and went through all of my automatic charges, re-evaluating if the ROI on each individual service was adequate at this point in time.  A few of them had not been giving me a good return for several months.  A few in-place services or systems were being duplicated such as virtual tours.  So it was time to turn some of the wipers off, instead of allowing them to run just because they had become part of the way we do things.

Now, I have it marked on my calendar to revisit our systems, services, and the price that we pay for them... just do inventory at 6 months.

I am glad that I realized some wipers needed to be turned off at Integrity Real Estate ServicesDid you remember to turn the wipers off?

Good afternoon Judi - wipers are just one example. When it comes to automatic things we can lose control.  I generally don't like auto bill payment for that reason.

Great reminder to evaluate what marketing we are doing and what systems we have in place and if they are giving a return for the investment. Easy to forget with automatic payment as you say.

Judi those small charges can add up to be charges and be using up money that could be better spent else where.

Endre Barath, Jr. ,  those little bills can eat away and I just had not taken the time to cancel.  Wish you had the problem also!  Ours has stopped being "liquid sunshine" at this point... it's rain!  BUT we did get sunshine yesterday for awhile.  Love the rain and always thankful for whatever weather The Lord sends us.

This is certainly a good reminder for us to discontinue those automatic payments for services that we no longer need.

What a great reminder! I don't like automatic deductions but there are times when at the time you sign, it's a good idea. But like with all good ideas, you don't always remember to STOP! Just like the rain, it doesn't stop. We've had so much rain here too! What a great analogy and something to think about carefully!!!

That's a funny story, Judi, but a great analogy. Your title certainly drew me in.

I think we all have or have had situations with things on auto-pilot that we need to cut out.

I have done similar things, Judi!  We are creatures of habit.  When we experience several days of rain and the wipers are necessary, it takes a bit to readjust our behavior once the rain stops.
