Welcome to Catron County, New Mexico well known for the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail, Pie Town Cafe, Windmill Museum, The Very Large Array, The Gila National Forest, The Cat Walk, and The Lightning Field, The Stool Bus, The Gatherin Place.

Catron County consists of Aragon, Apache Creek, Cruzville, Reserve, Snow Lake and Willow Creek, Pie Town, Quemado, Luna, Gila Wilderness, Glenwood. There are numerous campgrounds and RV parks throughout as well as hiking, mountain biking trails, riding trails within BLM lands and more.

Quemado (spanish word for burned) is located in Catron County with an elevation of 6970 square feet.

In Quemado and only 11 miles from a property I have listed for sale you will find the Town-Country Store with a gas station, a hardware supply store, a cafe, quaint specialty shops, the high school and a health clinic. You are only 45 minutes from Quemado Lake with Full RV hook up campgrounds along with tent sites and a boat ramp to troll around on the no wake lake for some of the BEST trout fishing and Tiger Muski! Take a trail on BLM land and enjoy nature. Have you been to El Mapias National Monument? Its a 2 hour drive and some of the neatest views from high atop the bluffs.

You have to stop in Pie Town, those pies at the cafe are homemade and I bet you can't eat just one. In fact, I bought 4 and had two left to bring home to Albuquerque, New Mexico. The elevation in Pie Town is 7900 feet.

Datil New Mexico was named for yucca seed pods and is home to Eagle Guest Ranch which is a cafe, motel, general store, gas station and RV park- they even order special supplies for you if request in advance. The Datil Well Campground is also nearby.

The Gila Wilderness area contains 558,014 acres and is the oldest wilderness area in the United States. This wilderness is off limits to motorized travel and there are no roads on any of the land as a means to preserve it just as nature made it. This is a beautiful place to hike, backpack, horseback ride, hunt and fish. Follow the trails and check with the Forest Service Ranger Offices in the area for maps and information on the area. Also visit http://www.wildlife.state.nm.us/hunting/licenses-and-permits/ for hunting information in the Gila Wilderness Area.

Glenwood is a quaint little village in southern Catron County with motels, restaurants and Frisco Hot Springs is south of Glenwood. The hot springs are located in the cold waters of the San Francisco river and used for therapeutic reasons.

Here in Glenwood you will also find the Catwalk. Along the way you notice a few remains of the old gold and silver mine where the creek emerges from the canyon. The metal catwalk has walkways with high sides running on top of the pipeline and over 20 feet above the stream along the canyon.

Cruzville is known for its unique pieces of wood known to hold Luminarias (paper lunch bags with 1/4 sand and a candle on top of the sand that is so beautiful to see) during Christmas or special occasions

Reserve was the home of Reserve Sawmill but has been closed down for some time now.

Snow Lake and Willow creek are the campground areas. 5 maintained campgrounds for tent camping and RV camping also offer access to the best trout fishing and game hunting.

Come and visit Catron County, New Mexico. There are many homes reasonably priced properties for sale along with vacant land. Subdivisions have covenants and restrictions and a yearly HOA fee in many subdivisions. Catron county has restrictions on hunting on your property and especially in subdivisions. Before you hunt, you need to have a permit and you need to know what the regulations are. Catron county also has restrictions on farm animals so verify with the County as to your intentions.

It is not uncommon to notice a lack of utilities on properties. Keep in mind there are costs associated with all of the utilities you desire. Call Socorro Electric, Stool Bus and AG Propane for questions on what it will cost for electric, septic, well drilling or water hauling, propane tank rental and hook up. Don't forget fencing! Put all these considerations when purchasing a home in the country.
