Ghost Bloggers?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

I just came across blogging software!  Something new to me, it's supposed to make blogging easy.  Every day, a real estate expert, ghost writer uploads content to your blog!  Oh!  But you can add original postings to make it interesting.

This is new to me.  What do you think of this?  Has anyone else run across such software?  I guess I was surprised to see it, and I am not sure what to make of it.  Doesn't it sort of defeat the purpose of blogging?  Maybe, in certain applications, it's useful?  Would love to hear your comments on this one ....

Boo

I don't know about software, but I've heard rumors that certain agents hire other people to blog for them.  Like you said Marie, it defeats the purpose.  Doesn't really show your personality.

Marie.. I've never heard of Blogging Software.  I think blogging is already very easy... and additive.

I agree with Valerie and Kim.  I think the purpose of blogging is to demonstrate something about us.  To show we are thinking people!

I agree, Valerie.  It is definitely addictive!  And easy once you get into it.

Kim, I hadn't hear that rumor.  Guess we get to know the personality of the mystery writer?

Dana, exaclty!  I saw an ad in Realtor and was quite surprised by it.

I will ghost blog for someone, but I make it clear that they can't declare the material as their own.  Additionally, I won't just "write stuff" something has to come from the person whose blog it is.  We discuss topics and I try to write in a way that doesn't clash with their style.  But this isn't cheap.  I charge $15-20/hour to do it. It's really for someone who doesn't have the time or who hates to write.  But it absolutely needs to reflect what the blogger wants to present and it can't be mindless.  If there is "software" for this, I'm assuming that hundreds (if not thousands) of people are using the same material and that will negatively affect google juice as the spiders are going to recognize it as "boiler plate."  NOT GOOD.

I've heard these rumors too.  The few people I help right now use me to "fill in."  They write as much as they can themselves. I have a couple of people who run their own storefront businesses and there really is little time to write. So I set them up and write something once a week or so.

Hi Ruthmarie ... Thanks for your comment.  There is a difference between writing for someone you know and the software that is out there.  When I saw the ad in Realtor, it looked very familiar.  I wonder how many businesses use such software.  I agree that it is not good from a Google perspective as well.  If you want to take a look at the web site www.bringtheblog.com

Hi Marie, that's the distinction.  Some simply don't have the time. But they can't "cheap out" and have it work. The idea that a good blog can built on "boiler plate" stuff is crazy. It won't get well ranked in the search engines and I think people can smell "canned" a mile away.

Hi Ruthmarie ... Ever since I read about the software and saw a sample, I see them all over the place ... static and boring.  Your "canned" remark is right on target.

I can't get with the idea of buying blogs from others or using "blog software" to write.  I spent over an hour yesterday writing and editing a blog.  Ghost blogging erases the distinction between an agent's thoughts and un-original filler.

I agree, Eric, and I like to spend the time writing and revising because it is a piece of me that I am posting.  Thanks so much for your comment.
