Ok - Tell Me Is This A Dream Or A Dud For Home Stagers ?

You guys may not be as clumsy as I am - but you probably do have a mishap now and then while staging homes... Recently, I picked up some great candle holders for a home staging project and rushed to my office to show them off... Well, in my haste - I pulled the bag out and WHAM - there they went on the pavement... UGH !!! Thankfully, they didn't break in a million pieces(composite material) and so I threw them back in the bag - thinking - I will try to glue them back together when I get a chance..Broken Vase

Well they've been in the bag for a while. I have heard the commercials about Mighty Putty and other bonding compounds but had not tried them.. I found a similar product in Big Lots yesterday called Mix 'N Fix.. It was $4.00 for 2 sticks, each one about the size of a film canister.. This is less expensive than Mighty Putty...

Yesterday after church, I thought I would give it a try.. I was missing a few small pieces from the broken candle holders so I am putting this to the test.. I have "glued" the pieces that I did have back together with the putty and filled in the missing areas.. It's supposed to only take 20 minutes to become hard, then you can sand, drill, etc (per the package)... The one does seem to be set up, the other where I had to build up the material is not dry yet..

Unfortunately, I cannot give you a photo of my project today since my card reader is not working on my laptop but used some stock photos.. I will try to post photos tommorrow with my results.. I will need to touch up the bonding material with paint after sanding a little since it's beige and the candle holders are dark.. (cannot believe that I did not take Before photos-gee that's not a good statement for a home stager)

I can think of lots of uses for this - so can't wait to test it out.. Have any of you used this, tell us about the results - please !!!!

Okay, fellow stagers - can't wait to hear from you... Is this a home stager's dream or dud ??

Free photo by fotosearch.

UPDATE -  Ok, not sure if I didn't activate the Mix N Fix enough or what.. It did not hold the pieces together..  It did work fine for small areas that needed filling in..

I plan to try the Mighty Putty to see if I get different results... Also, I will try glueing with Super glue then try to fill in with putty.. If you have a deep area, you should try to do thin layers, let set up, then add more thin layers so it will dry hard...

OK - Maybe not a dream but I will try again....

Anyone else with experience using either Mighty Putty or Mix N Fix - would love to hear from you.. Maybe I didn't do it properly - duh, go figure....

I can think of several uses for it, if it works! I am constantly noticing 'chunks' out of picture frames, and other things! And, I don't like to order stuff from Billy "Shouts in your Face" Mays, because then he'll just show up selling more stuff! Can't wait to hear the results!

Cheryl, I hope it works as well....I have a small box of things that I need to repair myself and if this works, it sounds easy enough.

My asst. broke the top to a coffee table that was beveled and opaque.  To replace with the same look, it would have cost as much as he table!

I have seen it in ads and was wondering as well if it really works or not. I would think it would be great on items that don't have to hold much weight.

Awww, Cheryl! That's really too bad. I guess it's Billy Mays, and his too loud commercials! Let us know the result!

Cheryl, I have wondered about the Billy Mays Mighty Putty as well - almost bought a clearance lamp today with a chunk missing - could I fix it? who knows?  I'll wait to see how your dilema works out.  Good luck!   -Sheri

Cheryl, Thanks for sharing this experience with us.  I have learned that my time and stress level is sometimes better spent on other things than stressing out about fixing things if something does not work.  What I try if something does not work well, is see if there is any way I can repurpose the ibroken or defective item in another way?   Just my thoughts.

Have a Colorful Day!

Sheri, Thanks for stopping by - I haven't got the Mighty Putty yet...

Irene, You make a VERY valid point.. sometimes - I wonder WHY I try to do many things that  I waste time on...  Love that you try to repurpose - I do that also.. I hate giving up on something... God bless,
