The Remembrance Poppy

By
Real Estate Agent with Premier Property Sales & Rentals RS284559

The Remembrance Poppy was inspired by a poem, and is worn to this day, to commemorate those who have died in war since 1921.

Here is the poem, In Flanders Field, written by a Canadian physician John McCrae:

Remembrance PoppyIn Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
      In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
      In Flanders fields

Gloria, I am so glad you posted this, a few years ago I mentioned it to some one on this platform about the Remembrance Poppy and they had no idea... I meant to write a post about it...but you know how that is...

Good morning, Gloria... I've always loved that poem. When I was growing up I saw lots of people wear poppies on Memorial Day (we called it Decoration Day back then). Don't see that so much any more unfortunately.

Nina Hollander yes I remember also.  Now I only see the flowers when you give money to a Veteran who is collecting donations outside of a store.  Have a good holiday.

Thank you Carol Williams . No never forget.

Gloria Todor - I remember the poppies being sold when I was a child. My father always bought them and taught me to be mindful of veterans and never say no to poppies. This was a really nice blog post and a good reminder too.

I hope you're doing well.
