Record Gas Prices - Will That Slow Sales in Port St Lucie

The rise of gas prices in the past year may have an effect that many have not considered.  Now with gas at over $4.00 a gallon (and that's regular) can people afford to continue to commute to outer areas.  Or would it be more affordable for them to buy in the area they work and save that money to pay for the higher cost of housing.

Port St Lucie has long been a commuters paradise, with lower priced homes and taxes.  A quietr area with less traffic. Will it continue to have that status?

Think of it this way, if the additional miles add 100 mile a day to your drive to work (50 miles extra each direction), and you get 20 miles per gallon that is 5 extra gallons a day that you would use.  At $4.00 per gallon that would add up to $100 per week, or $433 per month.  Would it be better to put that money into a local home, one without the commute.  Also take into consideration the commute time you might save.

I am sure that our prices for homes will continue to be lower than the neighboring larger cities.  But will that still be enough to tanalize the buyers to buy here rather than in the cities.
