January into early February means it is time to update my profile on all of my sites, and the best way to do this in the Rain is to talk about 2019 and my successes (and some failures) and get ready for 2020, which I hope is the best of my career. I also thought I'd get a big more personal...I've blogged on everything from septic systems to vacant land to Door County Zoning, but I'm all about talking more about all of Door County, which is why my blog and site are all things Door County. The year 2019 was a year full of achievements for me, personally and professionally, and I'd like to share to give some insight into what the life and day of a professional Door County Real Estate Broker is truly like.
CALL A DOOR COUNTY REAL ESTATE EXPERT!
I started 2020 by loading a new profile photo of my Labrador trying to "share" my birthday cake with me in 2019. I love some of the more whimsical photos on this site, but if it doesn't work, I've got a new professional shoot coming up, so stay tuned.
I really enjoy the people I work with. This was our summer
office party--a sunset cruise. As you can see, we all had a LOT of fun.
The group the plays together stays together. I'm wearing the black dress.
2019 was my best year professionally since I entered the business pre-recession in 2004--I did over $31,000,000 in Door County MLS transaction sides--which was the best for the Door County MLS for any agent or team that didn't include inside sales in the history of our recordings. So there was that personal achievement of over thirty one MILLION in sales sides in a single year, which was both surprising and humbling.

I had some big sales in 2019, but I also did a lot of new construction that has followed me into 2020. We finished Marina View Condominiums in downtown Sister Bay, which was a lot of work (18 months worth and 12 units, 3 stories) but it was a sell-out and was personally rewarding. Since new construction starts had been down in Door County since 2007-2008, this was the first start-up I had done since Tacoma Estates in Sturgeon Bay (I did a lot of them prior to Tacoma Estates and learned a ton in the early 2000s). It was a challenging process, but I think Marina View was a fantastic opportunity for people, and I have made some great friends and acquaintances there (it's located across the street from our office, people can pop in any time).

SOLD OUT 2019
I also had a big year at another Sister Bay development in 2019 when I sold 4 units at Sister Bluff Estates in 7 months (haven't sold that many consistently before the recession). Harbor Terrace also had a great year in Baileys Harbor, where I was a sales and referral agent.
However, I don't just do condos--I do a lot of inland and waterfront homes, businesses and vacant land. With all of the building going on, there has been a LOT of vacant land lately.

More New Builds to Come!
Door County is an incredible place...incredible scenery, water sports in summer and winter sports off season......lighthouses, State, County and Town parks, incredible beaches, public marinas, shopping and GREAT FOOD. Variously, our Towns and Villages have been named publicly by national and international publications as some of the best places to visit in the Midwest AND the United States.
No Autumn would be complete without a trip to Northport
down the winding roads of Highway 42 to the Ferry.
This should be a highlight of every fall trip to DoorCo.

You can't have a big year without help, so a shout out to Kelly Ritt, our right-hand person that keeps pointing me in the right direction and doing my office wall sheets, Corey my incredible photographer (insta @shutterjunkey) and Cathy, my other amazing photographer as well as the work Door County Dronography did for me and all of their assistance as I grew from 2017-2019.
So what do I do? I list and sell homes, businesses, condominiums and vacant land in Door County, Wisconsin. I've been a Broker for 16 years, I've tried to break the glass ceiling, and I work hard for my Sellers and Buyers. I'm an Accredited Buyer Representative through the National Association of Realtors (ABR) as well as a CRS through the National Association of Realtors (CRS). I've been Realtor of the Year, I've been named one of Wisconsin's Best Realtors 2018 and 2019, and I've served as both President and Director for the Door County Board of Realtors. I've traveled nationally for real estate, which is when I met the Property Brothers in 2016 (for real, Drew Scott and Jonathan Scott) in Orlando, and in 2017 I filmed my first gig for HGTV, set in Door County, which was Lakefront Bargain Hunt: Renovation, where I worked with a family from Racine to find their bargain Door County dream home in Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin.
Lakefront Bargain Hunt: Renovation
The "Before" Photo
I've worked with first-time home buyers, veterans, farmers selling land that has been in their family for generations, people buying their dream vacation home and celebrities (really, truly, but I can't name names). I've worked with people transitioning from their home into assisted living, I've worked with foreclosures, I've worked with short sales, I've helped people purchase their dream businesses and I've helped people with difficult sales in difficult times in their lives. I've worked with eclectic properties that were once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to list and sell, and I've worked with the Buyers that have purchased them.
In 2018 I sold a Norwegian Compound (in Ephraim, WI)
that was featured in NATGEO
I sold another home in Ephraim that was featured in
Better Homes & Gardens in the 1950s
I've worked with people that are selling for extremely difficult, emotional reasons, like divorce or a death in the family. And we work hard together to resolve as many issues as we can with the sale. I've worked with people joyous to find a Door County home--either primary or secondary. I love working with Buyers--it's always a new experience, but listing is my forte.
What will 2020 bring? Well, we just listed a new duplex at the beautiful water view and waterfront Yacht Harbor Shores Condominium, we have some projects in the hopper for Egg Harbor and we're bringing Shore View homes in Sister Bay to life, among other things. It promises to be a very exciting year. Interest rates are currently great, and I'm anxious to help you make 2020 YOUR best year in Door County. If you're a Buyer, see how I can help you find your Door County dream property.
If you're a Seller, I'm anxious to help you sell your Door County property for whatever reason you have to list this year. I'll help you find out what your Door County property is worth, and let you know what I bring to the table as your listing agent.
Together, let's make 2020 the year dreams come true. Contact me today at shumway.mk@gmail.com
