The Amazon Books Store in Scottsdale
If you have been to Scottsdale Quarter recently, you may have seen the new Amazon Books store. I heard they had a brick and mortar store or two in California, so I was intrigued when I saw that one was coming to Scottsdale.
Whereas Amazon online sells pretty much anything you can think of searching for, the main focus of this Amazon store is books, which is where Amazon.com got its start.
While it looks like a regular bookstore when you enter, there is a lot going on behind the scenes. All of the offerings are based on what is trending and selling online. And if a title starts to slip in sales or new book takes off, the underperforming item is replaced by a new one within a day or two. All of the inventory is constantly monitored and only "buzzy" or popular items get the shelf space.
Similar to a traditional bookstore, they have various sections based on interests and popularity. There is also a pretty extensive teen/children's area in the back where they have toys and games sprinkled in.
In addition to books, there is an area in the front that features non-book Amazon.com best sellers. Things that would be featured here would be things like small household appliances, personal care items and more. Again, the items that are featured are top sellers and they are swapped out within a day if something better comes along.
In the back is a wall full of technology - including headphones, speakers, cables and more.
When we were there, right after the holidays, there was a holiday gift area as well.
And let's not forget Amazon devices! As you enter, there is a table where you can touch and experiment with Kindles, Echo dots, Alexas and more.
If you are an Amazon.com fan, it is worth stopping by the store to get a different take on the experience.
