The Cost Of HVAC Cleaning

By

Cleaning your air ducts regularly is important. Blockages caused by dust and debris can cause your air ducts to function poorly. Excessive dust can make it difficult for people with allergies. You also want to check for potential mould. But just how much does the cleaning service cost?

What You Should Be Paying

On average, you should be paying anywhere from $300 to $500 for HVAC cleaning services. The cost can go up to $700 if you have a larger home. This is a small cost when you consider that the ducts only need to be cleaned every few years.

There is such a large range in price because there are many factors that come into play. The professional has to consider the number of vents you have, the size of your duct system, and how much cleaning is necessary. Big problems like mould can bring pricing to the top end.

Should You Go For Low Priced Offers?

There may be some companies that offer very cheap duct cleaning services. However, these companies may not do a thorough job of cleaning your ducts. You want to focus on hiring a professional that offers quality services even at the industry cost.

Some companies may offer a low-priced offer to get their foot in the door. Then they will upsell you on additional services standard with regular cleaning jobs. If you don't take them up on the offer, your vents will not get a thorough cleaning.

In some cases, companies use inadequate tools and do a flimsy job cleaning your air ducts. They are usually done in less than an hour when the job should take three or four hours to finish. This isn't the kind of service you want to pay for.

An excellent way to look at it is that air duct cleaning costs $30 to $40 per vent. If your home has eight vents, then you can expect to pay between $240 to $320 for the cleaning service. And of course, there will be other costs that may add to the basic cleaning services.

What to Look for in a Service Provider

It can be hard to find the right service provider for the job. To help you choose the right HVAC cleaning service provider, here are some things to look for.

- Look for companies that use outdoor vented equipment. This step will ensure that everything cleaned out of your home first goes outside before spreading inside.

- Make sure that the company doesn't use steam cleaning. Some providers will say that steam cleaning is good for killing germs—the reason is that the moisture can circulate throughout your air ducts and lead to mould growth.

- Check online reviews of the company you're considering. Most companies nowadays have a presence online. Their past clients will likely have left them reviews, so you want to check the reviews to get an idea of the quality of service you can expect from the company.

- Ask how they will deal with flex ducts if you have them—the reason is that brushing these ducts can lead to damage. If the provider says they use a brush, it's a huge red flag.

These are just a quick guideline you can use to help find the right service provider to clean out your air ducts. While it seems like a simple service, the small details make a big difference for your air ducts. Make sure you take the time to ask the right questions and do your research.

And again, when the advertised price is too good to be true for air duct cleaning services, it likely is. Stick to providers that charge within the $300 to $500 price range.

BTW - By "flex ducts," are you referring to what some call "dampers"?

Not really a damper, referring to the connection of the heating or air conditioning to your grilles / diffusers, commonly known as flexible ducts or flexible duct. They look like silver pipes or tubes sometimes rectangular. Sorry for the late reply...
