I just realized I have completed my first full year in real estate. Been so busy I forgot about it being my one year anniversary! Wow, what a time to pick a new career change. I read the new blog for rookies by Jason Crouch in Austin, TX and wonder where the light at the end of the tunnel is? Stubborn I am, persistent too, but it sure would be nice to make a sale or two!
To that end, I have learned a LOT in the past 12 months. Out of the five people I got licensed with in my class, only one has quit. I've completed my E-PRO certification and already finished my continuing ed requirements through 2009. I have learned I like what I do and I enjoy the challenge of continuing to learn and grow. I like meeting new people that I know I can help (if they only would want my help!). I have learned to schedule my appointments, handle my time management, structure my goals, create a 5 year plan, go with the flow, hand write thank you notes, keep my promises, and follow up, follow up and follow up again. I have learned that not everyone likes a straight shooter and most prefer the soft touch approach (with sugar on top). I have learned that the "expert" is usually the one who speaks up. I have found few lazy agents and more agents who are willing to go the extra mile to get a deal together because their last one just fell apart over financing. I have found referrals are a wonderful way to grow a business and that people will pay for a great agent they feel they can trust.
Did I think it would be this hard to get started in real estate? Nope. Will my second year be better than my first? Sheer determination will make it so.
