Every week I get new ideas for my Tablet PC. I purchased a Hewlett Packard PC plus a docking station and protable printer at the NAR convention in New Orleans. I spoke to my tech guy in December and January when business in Louisiana is slower and told him I wanted to improve my efficiency and security (I am terrible at backup which is why I purchased a docking station. He suggested I do away with my regular pc and use my tablet as primary machine in office as well as on the road. This eliminated transfer of data which imporves accuracy & saves time. He set up a secure wireless network in my home and now I can do high speed communication from anywhere in my home or on my patio. Also, I kept my moitor and now use a dual screen. This is great for having mls or data on one screen and emails open on the other. Saves lots of clicking back and forth. When I'm ready to leave for an appointment, I just sign off, pick up my pc which has all the data for listing presentation saved right there, and "hit the road". I am not a techy, and even I can do this easily.
I also have a Tablet PC from HP. I use mine on the road ALOT! I also use my cell phone as a modem!
Ann....this sounds really great. What were the key points on how you selected your tablet?
The reasons I selected this tablet were 1) I met some HP staff and Realtors with Hewlett Packard tablet and felt I could call them as I was setting up. I am not a techy and didn't know one locally at the time. Since then I've found a good one. 2) The limitations for Hewlett Packard in my opinion were an external CD drive I had to plug in and the weight. I felt I could live with those 3) The advantages were a "system" put together by HP that included a portable printer, docking station for backup and on the road access to office network data. While there might have been better components I didn't have the knowledge or time to research all that 4) a port that allows digital camera card to be read so I can create in home brochures at the listing, insert the pictures I take there, have my seller pick the style and color they like best, and print on the protable printer in my car. I list the house, take pictures, put up lock box, print brochures, put sign in yard. Impresses sellers with speed and service.
Response to John Ford:
Instead of using my cell phone as a modem, I got a Verizon wirreless card. Why did you choose your cell phone?
I've got 2 tablets, a motion and a IBM. Like them both. Still have the office set up with wireless and servers. BACKUP. If you crash a hardrive, you'll lose everything. it's not worth loosing!!!
Ann I have been using a tablet for a about 4 years. I also have a verizon wireless card which allows me to use online forms to write an offer and email it out. I can do it almost anyplace and snytime
Sounds like he has you all set up which is a good thing. I think my next pc will be a tablet.
I've had a dual monitors for a month, and LOVE it. I can't hardly live without !!!
Im not sure about the dual monitor But I am definitely getting a tablet pc. I am looking at dell as I currently have a latitude D410 with a docking port and love the mobility i get out of it.
www.motioncomputing.com has a great line up of tablet PCs. You should check them out. They are more expensive than a lap top. They are the electronic version of the clipboard which is great if you have forms to fill out or a checklist to mark off. Plus you can use it to go paperless. Have you hugged your tree today?
I love my toshiba convertible tablet. It is a laptop until I need to write on the screen... then I swivel it around and write. I think one of my favorite things is to eliminate paper from my office...
