National Arts and Humanities Month in Gaithersburg, MD

October is National Arts and Humanities Month. Arts programs have played an important role in getting us through the COVID-19 pandemic thanks to our Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture. With virtual and safely distanced exhibits, programs and events, the arts continue to challenge our thoughts and enrich our souls.

Explore our visual art exhibits here and events and programs here.

These Sedum are very distinctive sturdy upright growing plants with their fleshy leaves like those of a succulent and tight, flat flower heads that are often buzzing with bees and butterflies. They make a good dense patch of colour at the front to middle of a border. They are native to North America and commonly known as Stonecrop-Autumn. Their long-lasting flower clusters are mauve-pink, becoming chocolate-brown in winter.

Halloween Happenings

Montgomery County's COVID-19 Local Order does not allow for events or activities of more than 50 people. Large Halloween gatherings, even if held outdoors, are not permitted.

The county recommends finding alternatives to in-person trick-or-treating. In that spirit, Rockville’s Recreation and Parks Department has created several safe, festive alternative Halloween activities.

Arts and Humanities is certainly something the whole year of 2020 could use, not just the month of October!
