"Green" in the Home

Home Stager with Twiques: The Art of Home Comfort

There is a distinct movement toward Decorating Green-as in reusing, and recycling~in other words~redesigning and using what we already have!  Many will discredit decorators and designers as encouraging homeowners to strip down their homes to the rafters every January because that way we stay in business; however, when we focus on redesign we focus on using what you already have and perhaps adding an accent piece that complements the homeowners' style that also gives a lift and may be based on a current, or new, trend.

The same is true when it comes to staging a house for selling.  Many of the clients I work with have furniture that works quite well within the space, but simply needs 'twiquing'.  I worked on a client's house, preparing it for selling, last weekend.  She had the most fabulous furniture ~ and although she referred to it as 'this old stuff' ~ the style was very current and contemporary.  Once I had 'twiqued' the space it looked great!  We did not need to purchase or rent anything, simply needed to repurpose a few things, declutter, and reorganize what she already had within the space.  Unfortunately this is not always the case and some rental furnishings are necessary.  I do, however, like to do redesign staging whenever possible.  This also can lead into Move-in Magic which assists the client with placing furniture, artwork and treasures to their best advantage in a new home ~ again focusing on reusing what you already have and refraining from buying new because something doesn't fit, or you haven't thought of using a piece in a different or unusual way.

In an effort to reduce our impact on our natural resources, I believe we do need to rethink how we are decorating and staging our homes and make an effort to reuse, recycle and redesign our spaces for the future!

This is good to hear. Most sellers in this market are already concerned with getting or at least saving as much money as they can. They don't want to hear anything that has to do wih spending more money.
