Somewhere in a distant land
A soldier sits alone
Thinking of his family
and of the warmth of home.
There's a loneliness in battle
and emptiness inside
as the holiday's approach
with no one at their side.
They see no friendly faces
wherever they may go
what a life they chose to live
Merry Christmas, G.I. Joe
Their family struggles in life
not knowing what's in store
will their G.I. be the lucky one
and return home from war?
They too feel the emptiness
of being so far apart
no one to share the love with
that dwells within their hearts.
As we live our busy lives
we may forget to pause
and thank them for their sacrifice
that's given for the cause.
While we may not be concerned
as we have no one there
remember, we're all brothers/sisters
and it's our cross they bear.
So gather 'round the table
and bow your heads
to say a prayer and wish him
"Merry Christmas, G.I. Joe"
