Losing a Great Assistant . . .

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Realty Services

My Maria, she is the best.  She is leaving me at the end of July and I am sad.  I have written a post about it I don't Bad News very well.

She is so cute.  Tonight I was at home, getting ready to write a post about who knows what and my phone rings.  Maria said I know you are home alone and I want to take you out to dinner.  So, we went out and had dinner.  I, of course, treated and we had a great time.

You see, I am supposed to be on summer vacation with my family but I had a couple of settlements that got postponed to Monday.  I sent my husband down to our home in NC and am waiting to settle tomorrow.

Maria is my assistant and my friend who is going to move to Florida with her boyfriend.  I understand even though it is not a great scenario for me.  It is life.

I always love that Maria has such good energy and a positive attitude that I will miss her dearly.

That's all, gonna miss her help and support.

Audrey,  I wish you the best.  Could she be your new virtual assistant?

She could be your virtual assistant for sure...have you considered that option?  Still sad when friends move away.

Audrey, the nerve of Maria finding a boyfriend to make her happy in Florida!  You should have an agreement with her to replace herself with somebody at least as good as she is!

Marchel, She is the cutest person.  You would just love her.  She works as hard as she is nice.

Eric, she found a short term rental, but I think she would be more interested in a job!!

Katie and Carrie, we talked about that.  I think there are some things we could work out.  I am not sure how that works?

Pat, She does have her nerve.  She is so funny, we put an ad out for an assistant, got a bunch of resumes.  She wants to train them, but I am just not into it.  I have someone that will process my files.  I think I am set for now.  Maybe I can do some of the virtual stuff with Maria. It is so funny, she is my employee and most of the company office is so sad she is leaving.  They all love her, her energy is contagious.

David, I am not sure how that works?  We talked about it, I guess we should explore it more?

Too bad so sad. I agree with Patricia K. She should find you a good replacement. Have you asked her if she could recommend someone?

Angelia, she has scoped her friends out.  Maria is so funny because she talked to one person and Maria said, no they are not going to work-  she is funny how protective she is of me.  I think I will be okay.  I have had to go it alone before.  I would rather have the right match for me than just have a warm body there in my office.

Don't you just love settlements that won't seem to settle?  Yikes. Hopefully they will close and you can go enjoy your vacation.

Where is your home in NC? Kathy's folks are outside of New Bern and we have 30 acres near Oriental that we'll build on in a few years.

I am so sorry you are losing Maria!  It would devastate me to lose my assistant; she knows more about my business than I do (not really, but close).  What a magnanimous thing for you to do to give her such a good "plug".  I'm sure she'll have several job offers as a result of this post.

She is a lovely girl and I am sure that you have been an extraordinary mentor.  God will bless you with another outstanding assistant.  You might try posting a job ad as a blog right here on AR.  Craig's list works wonders for me.  My best ad for an assistant reads:  "Real Estate Apprentice"...  I get lots of qualified people with that one.  I just hired a second assistant who is starting tomorrow.  I found her on CraigsList with that ad.

Good luck Aubrey!  Enjoy your vacation!  Any plans for Myrtle Beach?  How far away from Myrtle Beach willl you be?

Jesse, It is two deals like that and it is making me nuts.  The best thing I did was send my husband ahead so he wasn't sitting around winding his watch waiting to leave.  That would just ad to my stress.  Our home is in Kure Beach, right outside of Wilmington.  We have a vacation home there and a few rental properties as well.  We really like it there, kind of small town but then Wilmington is a nice city too.  I know Oriental.  My friends just built a home in Cypress landing outside of Washington.  They own land - a small lot- in Oriental as well.  Wow, we will be neighbors someday!!

Mirela, Maria is great.  Just like your assistant, Maria runs the show.  I did run an ad on Craigs list and I got some really good resumes.  I think I have a new assistant picked out and will be fine.  Maria is just special.  You know how you find one of those people from time to time in our lives.  Our home is in Kure Beach, so not sure how far that is from Myrtle Beach?  My husband and I always say we are going to drive down that way to just check it out sometime.

Audrey, I'm happy for your assistant but know the feeling of sadness you have.  I hope you'll find the perfect person to come in and assist you when she leaves.

Audrey,

I like David's idea of having Maria as your vitural assistant.  There are many VA's on A/R who I am sure you could ask some questions of to see if it would work for you.

Yep, I know right where you'll be. We haven't been to Wilmington in a while.  The last time we had dinner at a little hole in the wall and walked on the boardwalk after dinner.  I was so full I could barely wiggle.

Cypress Landing is a little to the north of us.  We're about halfway between Minnesott Beach and Oriental.  We bought a portion of some farmland that was in the middle of nowhere when we bought it... but it's on the water.

We're darn near almost neighbors.  :)

Its tough when you lose a co-worker especially a hardworking and dedicated one. But I am sure that you are not going to have a problem finding a replacement. Much luck to you Audrey. Great post.

Audrey~ It was so good to hear from you and thanks for stopping by and commenting on post about the 18+ acre "mini farm" I have listed that is perfect for horse lover's.  Yes the price tag is really good especially when you compare it to other places. LOL.  I remember reading earlier that "Your Maria" was moving onward.  I hate it for you, but at least you recognize it is the best thing for her.  Like the others suggested, maybe use her as a virtual assistant.....

Hi Guys.  You all are always so good and positive for me, Thanks for all of your comments.  Sorry I have not been around much.  I am supposed to be on vacation with my husband and have been on the phone dealing with problem settlements this week.  I am going to talk to Maria to see if we can figure out how we can do a virtual assistant thing.

Will be back as soon as I get these albatrosses off of my neck!!

Audrey,

I am dreading the day my office manager tells me she's "in the family way" and will be leaving. Great people are a blessing and it is sad when they leave. Enjoy my lovely state (NC)

Hi Kathy, I am at the beach, but it has not really felt like it because I have been living on the phone dealing with all of this.  Someday I am just going to blow right up and that will be that.  I got a verbal and hopefully it will soon be done. I have been consumed by it that I have not been around AR much at all.   I will figure something out with Maria.  I will sure miss her.
