In recent years ‘buying a lifestyle’ has become a key phrase in sales patter. You’re not buying a gym membership, you’re buying a lifestyle. You’re not buying an espresso machine, you’re buying a lifestyle. You get the point. But is it actually possible to ever buy a lifestyle?
According to Ian Usher, it is. And he’s selling his lifestyle on eBay right now. So what’s included in the sale?
Well, you get a nice 3 bedroom house in Perth, Australia. Oh and absolutely everything inside the house too, including computers, a home cinema system, DVDs, bed linen, kitchenware and all of Ian’s clothes (you might want to make sure you’re a 5ft10 medium built man to get the most out of the offer). You also get a car, a bicycle, a jetski and a motorbike. Ian is literally going to walk out of the property with just his passport and his money, leaving everything else behind to the highest bidder, even the contents of his fridge. And remember he’s selling a lifestyle here, so it’s not just his possessions on offer, but his job (his employers have agreed to give the highest bidder a two week trial which can become a permanent position), AND his friends. Well you can’t sell your friends exactly (unless you’re using an annoying Facebook application) but he is offering introductions to his friends who have promised to help the highest bidder settle in to their new lifestyle.
Ian, who’s actually a British ex-pat, plans to head to the airport with his earnings and take the first plane with an empty seat. He doesn’t know where he’s going or what he’s going to do, and that seems to be the fun of it.
It’s definitely an interesting way to start afresh, I’ve blogged about house sales with extras thrown in on ActiveRain before but never quite to this extent.
You can view the eBay listing here, if you plan on putting a bid on then do let me know. I’ll be watching this with interest. The ‘lifestyle’ is currently fetching AU$300,433.31, which is about US$286,423, and it has four and a bit days left to go.
Would you ever do something this daring? Assuming you were single with no children, would you ever put up everything you had for sale and go jetsetting around the world as a mini adventure? Or would you miss working in real estate too much? ;-)
