Mark to many so called leaders talk the way, but fail to show the way through example.

It should always be a matter of do what I do and not what I say. Don't ask anyone to do something that you wouldn't do yourself

One of the best leaders I have known was a gal at a software company I once worked at.  She was quiet spoken, but somehow managed to lead very effectively.  She would put her thoughts out there in almost an inquisitive form.  She'd form a consensus among those on the team.  They would finely tune her ideas, and then implement them.  She always gave praise to those who had it coming.

Hi Mark- they are called Leaders for that very reason!  Leaders/ bosses inspire by their actions. u
