Tips to Save on This Summer's Energy Bill

In Morgan Hill, San Martin and Gilroy, which is the quiet side of Silicon Valley, we experience some pretty hot weather this time of year.  South Santa Clara County in California can get pretty toasty in the late summer and early fall.

Here are just a few helpful hints that have worked for us and have helped to save on our Summer Energy Bill.

We have a "whole house fan" in our attic. What it does is pull cool air from the outside and sends the hot air into the attic and out the vents.  Just Google for all your options.  We find this works great to get the hot air out prior to turning on the Air Conditioning.

Another thought would be to get a programmable thermostat.  They are not too expensive, should be under $60 at any hardware store.  With the programmable one you just program it once and your thermostat adjusts itself throughout the day.

It won't say on this year's bill but planting shade trees around the house to block the noon day sun will have a cooling affect on the house.  Plus they look great and take in Carbon Dioxide and give back Oxygen, God's way to clean the atmosphere.

I would love to hear other people's thoughts on how to keep the energy costs under control this season.
