Rumors abound that you can't get property insurance on your home in Florida. It's only that - a rumor. While the cost may be (will be) high, it is still available. I blogged yesterday about the three types of insurance that may be required: property (general risks and liability); flood and wind insurance. That article also discusses questions to ask and how to choose both a policy and an insurance agent, as well as the variables that will affect the rate. Property insurance IS still available in St. Petersburg and the Tampa Bay area.

The same rumors apply in my community. One of the first questions I hear from prospective buyers is the "insurance availability" issue. Let's all pray for a quiet hurricane season again.
