Your Buyers and Sellers need Moving BOXES!!

How many times have you moved?

Before I moved to Jacksonville, I had moved 7 times in 10 years....and I wasn't even a Realtor then. Now that I've been a Realtor, I feel like I really know what the Buyers and Sellers are personally going thru, since I felt the same way, during all those moves!!

One of the best things I love to do for my Buyers and Sellers....is to FIND them Moving Boxes! I know when I moved, I always wanted/needed them, and they are so expensive!! Even if they are having a Moving company move them, they can still start packing alittle ahead of time.

Since I'm an Accredited Staging Professional too, I usually give the Sellers a few ideas on how to stage their home, by removing some of the knick-knacks, personal pictures on end tables and walls, some of the clothes out of their closets and any of the excess items they don't need. The more they can start to pack up their things, the better the home will show!

One place you can tell them to get boxes is on www.craigslist.com. Under For SALE, there is a FREE section. Search for Moving Boxes and you'll find others that want to get rid of theirs. (Then when you move in, you should post FREE boxes, so you can recycle them to someone else).

Another way, is for YOU (their realtor) to check the MLS for any homes over 2,500 sqft that have CLOSED in the last 1-3 weeks in nearby neighborhoods. (Typically you'll find, with the larger homes...they are professionally moved.) Call the Selling agent and ask " I see that you helped a buyer purchase a home on ___ street, that has just closed. I was wondering if you knew if they were professionally moved, and if they'd like to recycle their boxes? I have a buyer that would love to have some boxes and would be willing to take them off their hands, by coming to get them, to get them out of their way." Usually they are really excited to help their buyer get rid of all their boxes. You usually have to wait so long for the trash to come pick them up once a week, when you're unpacking. Plus, they will have LOTS of the wrapping paper for glasses and dishes, that is very helpful!!

Try it, your Buyers and Sellers will REALLY appreciate it!!! It doesn't take much time, and it helps make the stress of moving alittle easier!

Jeannette, that's a fantastic idea about recycling the boxes through Craigs List.

Jeannette thanks for the reminder. It is easy  to get caught up in the deal and forget the simple things like moving box's.

Boxes come in handy for sellers that have too much stuff and need an incentive to start packing and paring down what they have.

Hi Jeannette,

The cost of boxes is ridiculous!  You've given a great idea which many of us should use.  I do many Lease/Options with the properties that we buy and I plan on telling all of my future tenant/buyers this idea because it helps save them money and I end up looking like a genius.

Thank you.
