The Calling That Will Let You Find Yourself

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

Give DrinkI have somewhere along the way in life found that I have been a "helper" to other people. Are you a helper? It is something that some gravitate towards. Maybe coming from a family with multiple children we all had to pitch in and it was to be expected. But,

DO YOU HAVE THE CALLING THAT WILL LET YOU FIND YOURSELF?

There is an ultimate benefit of being a helper. In the field of Real Estate, Staging, Inspecting, Title or Loan jobs, Sales, Teaching and Encouraging, we are all tasked to be helpers. But it tests our limits. People are not perfect. They may even reject our help. They may not be thankful. They may even criticize our help. Helping can be painful. I think along the way I have felt that phrase that says give till it hurts, and no good deed goes unpunished. But helping with a blind eye to reward is a powerful force in the world.

HeartIt is nothing less than pure love.

If you practice extra hard helping everyone around you every day, the benefit is you will learn so much about yourself.

I hear people all the time say they are lost. They are focusing on themselves. If they would help others, and help some more, and by the way continue to help others, they would be so full of knowledge about themselves they could never claim being lost. Try it. You need to know who you are.

"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others."  ~ Gandhi

Chris Ann: I have always believed that we all individually make a difference. I think your natural helping trait rubbed off on your husband and he finally GOT IT. Now he is prodding you to get out there and do the buying of the Christmas gifts. Now clue him in that if he will do more and more of this he will learn greatly about himself. If you want to know who you are do this in mass quantities. I knew you were a giver since the first day I found you Chris Ann. I'm good at that part of my perceptive skills.

Gary:  I am learning from you.  You are such a good follow-upper on all the comments!  I give you high marks for it and I will do the same for my blogs starting with today.

About the subject at hand:  We all share the same soul.  When one of us is hurting, all of us are hurting.  Some may just not consciously realize it, that's all...

Mirela: That is a very good point about community. The downfall of civilization is when we stop caring about each other and selfishness rules. You are a very astute one Mirela in seeing that I "try" to comment back with others that write. It takes time of course which is what most people are limited on. I just give up sleep : ) But I do care about you. I call it "answering my mail." I've thought about writing a post in this area, but have hestitated cause I think it might make some uncomfortable and feel I am putting pressure on them. Plus, it may be just my style and I don't want to impose how I operate when they are different than me.

Gary:  I think you should write it as "My Blogging Success Secrets", that way you just share what works for you, without being dictatorial.  I don't think people think about all these details; I know I didn't.  I would love to read that blog!  Please write it and make sure you post it on the Optimist Board!  Thank you Gary!

Hi Gary: Great post and I agree!  When you are feeling bad, sick, depressed....make it a point to go bless someone! It takes your mind off yourself and you get so much in return...it's great healing for yourself!  And pretty soon you find yourself blessing others any chance you get when you're feeling great:)

HI Gary~ This truly is a wonderful blog, and so true. I would consider myelf a helper, but I can always do so much more, and can always give more too. Thanks for the reminder!

Mirela: What I like about what you said is describe it as sharing what I learned vs. telling someone how to do their own blogging. In other words this is what works for me and the reasons why I do that. I'll have to ponder that a little and see what I come up with. I was just sensitive to the fact that I am not "all knowing" about blogging and didn't want to come off that way, but we all do learn from what has worked for us. So you have sparked my brain some more (not that its overactive self needs more sparking ; ) and I'll see where this leads). Thanks for your thoughtfulness towards me.

Teresa: You are absolutely right. When you fall off the horse and your are down in the dust, get back up and go help someone ELSE. It is the best medicine for you. It is as you said HEALING. Then all of a sudden you are practicing this all the time. Hence, great feelings, and you forget you had any problems to begin with.

Laura: We have so much potential in us as a giver it is scarey sometimes. Take care of yourself internally as well so that you have the strength to give.

Gary, I couldn't agree with you more. I had never let the phrase "no good deed goes unpunished" sink in quite like it just did. Sad though isn't it?

Now, let me just tell you something. Your virgins...that is by far the greatest and deepest laugh I've had in a long time. You go boy.

Deb: I am convinced in practicing this love / helping thing is just throw yourself out there and see where it goes. You are a great role model for me on this. You roaming your town and the barbeque joints interviewing people with a camera was tremendous love and "risk" on your part. Then you posted it on AR. But it all worked out fine. I think we worry too much about the consequences of what other people will think all the time. Yes, be tasteful and respectful, but above all BE YOURSELF. You have no problem in that department. Glad you liked that little email I sent out.

Gary, I can not tell you how wonderful I feel inside when I lend a hand and help someone. I try not to even talk about it because I am not looking for a thank you, just the peace that is my soul and heart are enough.

Gary, what a wonderful post. People are miserable because they get so wrapped up in themselves that they can't see a hurting world. I've always been a giver, and if my husband didn't restrain me we couldn't have anything at all...

Sometimes it does hurt to give. But we just do. If you're called. You're called.

Helping others brings rewards that money can't buy and the sad part of life in todays world is we have to make sure we do not get taken for a ride in the process.

Karen: Be imitators of Christ they say. Love thy neighbor. That is how we are to treat our fellow man. You, I, and many others strive to do our best in this area Karen.

Barbara: You have figured out that the giving in and of itself is what's important. You are one of those people I highly admire that I call the difference makers in the world.

Linda: What a beautiful thought on giving. I already knew this about you, but you are the best kind out there Linda. Never even questioning, just going into action. It always amazes me that level of love.

Cameron: Yes, some of the "receivers" of the giving can take advantage of the givers. In the old days very nice people would give up a coat only to get beaten up by who they gave it to. There is a comes around goes around in the Universe and givers should keep giving "know matter what." But your point is that there is a seamy reality that goes with giving too.

Michelle: Definitely thoughts to ponder to be a better you. My main point on the post is the discovery more about you Michelle along the way with giving more. Many people have not got that far in their giving to find this out. It is like step two in what happens. First give, then learn about yourself.

Gary, you are just that warm and fuzzy, wonderful guy that writes from the heart.  Many people have trouble expressing some of the things that just flow from your spirit and heart.  THANK you for adding that reality fix when we need it, the story with the heart when we need to stand back and stop taking ourselves too seriously and for just being Gary, a great guy with a welcome and always upbeat blog post to read.

Gary, what can I say...you truly blog from the heart and it shows!

I was lucky enough to have a chance run in with a wonderful person who's work I admired for quite some time. We clicked right away. She has gone out of her way to help me. I am still amazed by her generous spirit. I can only hope one day to return the favor.
