First and Foremost-Welcome Volkswagen! On Tuesday 7/15/2008, Volkswagen AG announced that it will build its first United States assembly plant in Chattanooga. This is huge not only to Chattanooga, Tennessee but also the southeast. The good does not stop and this point either. Volkswagen could not have picked a better location. The surrounding states of Kentucky, Georgia, and Alabama will also reap the benefits as well as the rest of the United States. The Chattanooga economy was good before the news of Volkswagen and now everyone is building up in anticipation of the things to come. Volkswagen is Europe's largest automaker and will be investing nearly a billion dollars at Chattanooga's Enterprise South Industrial Park. The plant is expected to bring nearly 2000 jobs to the area not to mention the auxiliary jobs that will come as a result. The current estimation is somewhere from 5 to 11 jobs per every one job at Volkswagen Chattanooga. There are also several things stirring about including things like VW will be building not only the popular Volkswagen brand but also Audi. Volkswagen has made it very clear that they intend to grow their position in the United States market. Volkswagen has its sights set on Toyota and the mid size market. Volkswagen is known for setting records and setting trends. The VW bug is the top selling car worldwide (21,529,464 from 1938 to 2003) and I believe the market is ready for another such vehicle. The vehicle needs to be small, inexpensive, all electric car with a small gasoline generator on board for recharging if necessary. The charging unit needs to be able to plug into regular 110 outlet that can be charged at night or maybe even at work. Volkswagen is a company that can design such a thing. Again I want to say on behalf of Hamilton County, Tennessee; Chattanooga, Tennessee; The state of Tennessee and all others welcome. As the top realtor in the Chattanooga market I am thrilled for our community and this awesome opportunity. Again and it can not be said enough Welcome Volkswagen from RE/MAX Properties in Hixson, from Sheila Shipley, From Aaron Shipley and the rest of the RE/MAX family. Who has not owned a VW? Below is Sheila Shipley in 1970 with her new VW Bug.
