seo for real estate websites part 1

There are so many factors that go into achieving great results that it is too much to put in one post.

Know your market and where you fit in.

niche marketing is the way to the top of a search engine.

If you want to do well in the search term  "my town real estate" and you currently have a website that is not in the first 10 pages of google then you know what you are currently doing is not working.

the big question is what are you doing wrong.

The answer is not simple and is different for every site.

But the real trick is knowing what keywords are the ones used the most in your market. The keyword Tool in Google AdWords now shows how many searches are done for the keyword, how much advertising completion there is for it, and also suggest other terms that could be useful in creating a marketing plan.

You may find that there is a lot of competition for the search phrase "mytown real estate" but a lot of searches and less competition for "mytown condos".

Search engines want to achieve one thing for thier users. They are trying to find an authority on a subject.

To be the authority on real estate has a lot of competition, but to be an authority on condos could be a great place to start.

So currently there are sites that are considered the authority for you targeted search term. They are the current top 10.

A good way to start is to have a complete analysis performed on your current site. Any good SEO consultant should have software to compare your site to the current top 10 and evaluate on a search term basis where you stand.

This is tricky because you also need to do the same analysis for most likely at least 5 other search terms you want to do well in, unless you have the budget to build a site for each search term. (this of course is the best way to go, but at anywhere from 6 - 10K for a site it is costly.) (foot note if your site costs you less that 6K then most likely your site is not built on software customized to your needs. the analysis to build the site uses at least 3k in time to get it right.)

At this point you when all the anlysis is done, and you have seen the reports, the real work will begin.

You will know your sites strengths and your competitors weakness.

Now it is a matter of using this knowledge to create your plan to become an authority site in Google and other search engines.

Next blog will discuss content,  what kind where it should be placed on your site.

Clifton,

Thanks for the Keyword Tool site.  Very helpful for us newbies waho are still trying to muddle our way through the endless info.  I had an "ah ha" moment while playing with the tool.  I think it will be useful with my future blogs.

Thanks again,

Linda
