Signs of the times

Real estate yard signs.  I refuse to pay somebody $35 to install and remove my yard signs.  So I bought a bunch of 66" tall white aluminum colonial sign posts from Lowen Signs for about $70 each and I hang my 24"x30" inch panels from them.  There's a spot for a rider on top of the horizontal post and a rider can be hung off the main panel at the bottom.

They've worked great for the last 2 years but I have 2 problems with them:  1.  Pounding the steel anchor stake into ground and getting it straight.  It's always off a little bit and the sign always ends up leaning one way or another.  If that stake is just a little bit crooked, the angle of crookedness increases proportionaltly when the post is installed over it.  2.  The wingnuts that attach thru the back of the post to the stake are causing the powder coating on the aluminum to wear off in flakes.

So I'm wondering about the 60" tall PVC white colonial posts.  They're a little cheaper.  They're lighter.  I imagine the paint peeling problem wouldn't be an issue.  But it still goes back to that darn stake!  There is no good way to get it in the ground nice and straight.  Especially in hard ground.

I'm considering going with a traditional style yard sign frame.  I see I can order 24"x30" frames with a bottom rider slot and an open rider position on top.  Only $19 each.  That's a large sign compared to the typical traditional size of 24"x18".

The drawback is the traditional frame just don't have the same cool look as the nice white L shaped colonial sign post.  The impact of the sign in front of the house just isn't the same.  Does it matter?

These are the issues that confront me tonight as I sit here listening to crickets chirping outside.

Hello Joe!  Love your profile pic!  I understand the complications you are having with the post.  Since we've become a supplier for the KW Luxury Homes Division, we were forced to offer a post for people that are not privy to using them.  We call it the EZ Post.  We've got a video demonstration of it on our website - check it out at www.jackpratt.com

Look forward to seeing you in New Orleans!!

Best,
