5 Green Guerrilla Marketing Ideas

By
Real Estate Agent with The Hogan Group at Keller Williams Realty

There have been a ton of articles written about Guerrilla marketing. If you need an explantion of guerrilla marketing search the ActiveRain blogs- there are tons of references to it. For those EcoBrokers and others trying to reach the green niche here are a few ideas for you:

1. Recylced door hangers: Spend a couple hours a week walking your target area leaving door hangers. Make sure your printer is utilizing recyced paper and that fact is printed on the hanger along with your message.

2. Post-it Notes: 3M just came out with a line of 100% recycled Post-It Notes. Have your printer print your message on Post-It notes and leave them on car windows(they come off easily), on mailboxes, etc.

3. Seminars: Offer seminars on improving energy efficiency, eco friendy cleaning products, waterless landscaping. Partner with Green businesses and have your speakers come from those businesses. Offer a benefit to your target market- dont try to sell to them at the seminars. Make it a monthly event.

4. Keep CFL's in your car: When you meet a prospect to show a home, or get introduced to a potential client- give them a Compact Fluorescent Lightbulb with your business card attached. You can usually buy a bulk order of CFL's for $1.00- 1.25.

5. Green Topic-of-the-month: generate a list of green topics and distribute a monthly flyer that discusses a green topic (i.e. improving indoor air quality, No VOC Paint reviews, How to test your insulation, Testing for Radon).

I don't know what Guerrilla Marketing is, but I'll look it up. I really like the idea about giving away the CFL's to clients and prospects with the business cards. We can get more people using them and promote ourselves.

Great suggestions as I have just been certified to provide training for Live Green, Live Smart out of Minnesota. Thanks for sharing green ways to get the message out. :)

Sherry: You really should check out Guerrilla marketing. Basically its the idea of gaining maximum exposure using the least amount of money- money is replaced by using energy, time and imagination. This idea fits well with sustainability and utilizing less resources to meet goals.

Great suggestions.  I try to do as much as possible to do as Ghandhi suggests and "Be the change you want to see in the world". Small things add up if we all do them.

These are great ideas Mike.  thanks you for sharing.  I especially like the idea of the CFL's with the business card.  Makes you stand out in a unique way and helps the environment a tthe same time.

I have been using the CFL with the business card attached for about 5 months now. I track the number given away, the amount of CO2 saved, and the cost saving for each light. I put that on any postcards I send (using recycled paper, of course), and give away packs of 10 light bulbs to my buyers as they moving into their new homes  ( i include other items in this closing gift as well). Anyway, they are well received. It is a good idea...

Preparing your property for sale

Hi Mike,

Live Green, Live Smart is an institute that has renovated the first house in the world to the LEED platinum standard. A very difficult task indeed.

I travelled to Minnesota to see this house, you can too by going to livegreenlivesmart.org and clicking on the stars to read how they achieved the designation;.

Their goal is to get 50,000 homes renovated in a short time to reach the goal of a sustainable house.

If you have $ 1, 000 or $ 2,000 to spend or more. How can your clients upgrade their home for sale or to move in a new home and make a difference to their utilitiy bills.

I was trained to certifiy Realtors, brokers, agents etc. to be able to answer their clients questions so they can become the professional to turn to for advice. Your clients read info on the net for a year or two so they are usually way ahead of the Realtor in knowledge. Live Green, Live Smart aims to prepare you for those a questions or to work for a builder that builds these type of houses with the newest technology.

If intereseted in learning more please visit the greensciencebuild.net or email me directly and I will direct you to someone that can help you locally.

Sounds like you are on the right track with the light bulbs. I will be using your idea this year and keeping track of the savings as you suggested.

Best of luck, M

Dena-

No I havent done anything with Live Green, Live Smart- but it certainly seems to make sense. Anyone that reads my blogs or my responses to other posts..knows that I seriously feel this is the way RE will be done in the near future. What we call GREEN today will be the norm in a few years.
