Here is my weekly Top Ten with an Olympic Twist.......
1. Michael Phelps, wow!!! I am amazed at the fact that he will compete in at least one more Olympiad, London 2012, and possibly more than that considering that how long these athletes are competing now. How many golds will he have then? 20+ is not out of the realm of possibilities.
2. Usain Bolt set the second week of the Games on fire. I wonder if after show boating in the 100 Meter final how many of his comrades and coaches spoke to him about the right way to win. Also consider how much more he could have broke the record by if he had run all out to the line. Ii thought overall he was a dynamic addition to this years Olympic moments.
3. What a job by the Mens Volleyball Team. Winning a gold medal is hard enough, but having to fight through the emotions of a head coach's father in-law being stabbed to death during the Olympiad is mind boggling. Maybe they used their emotions to fire themselves up, I don't know. Very impressive performance under less than ideal circumstances.
4. How about the Mens Water Polo Team taking the silver medal. Talk about an upset.
5. Some of the events were new to me and really left me questioning their sporting relevance. I mean syncronized diving, is that for real. I watched though and what really do I know.
6. I enjoyed watching the Chinese run through all of the table tennis events, my god are they good. I can barely see the ball at times and the Chinese don't miss or for that matter, lose.
7. Tremendous job by the ReDeem Team. Shouldn't they win though? I understand basketball is a world wide sport but how many players really come from other countries. Not like baseball where the DR or Japan could definately field great clubs. In basketball other countries might have had one Superstar, not a whole team of them. But a good win...
8. I certainly wasn't impressed with our Boxering Contingent. Boy did they lay an egg with winning only one medal, a bronze.
9. I thought that as a whole the host country of China put on a great event. I certainly don't agree with their stance on human rights issues or how they chose to govern their country, but once the games begin focus must return to the athletes and their accomplishments. Though the games were blackened by the stabbing death of Todd Bachman, I was still impressed with the over handling of them. I was disappointed to find out parts of the opening cerimony were faked and I thought how they handled, poorly, some of the participants was shameful, making a cute kid lipsink another not as good looking child, is horrible. Still and all putting on an event of this magnitude isn't easy, so nice job!
10. London in 2012 might be worth the trip across the pond!
