Four Ways to Increase Your Ineffectiveness

Yeah. You read the title right. I wanted to approach the subject of what we do and why we do it from a different angle. There's never a better time to evaluate one's approach to doing business than during troubling times. And every one of us is vulnerable to adopting and/or coddling bad habits. And many times we don't even realize some of the things we do are actually working against us. But that's not the direction of this post. I'm wanting to add/reinforce counter-productive habits to your life and mine (since we really need them!). And when we do the following things, I expect that our ineffectiveness will continue (and may even upgrade) - guaranteed or your money back. And so here are the habits we can adopt/coddle to keep our downward spiral going:
  1. Keep an irregular schedule. The benefits of working from sun up to sun down (and beyond) are endless. You never get any rest. You always "feel" like you're accomplishing a lot (when you probably aren't) and you never have time for the important things (like family).
  2. Continue to do what doesn't work. This is where "I've always done it this way" is the perfect slogan. Invest solely in the old approach to doing things. After all, it's just a smokescreen that others who are using new techniques and technology are enjoying success.
  3. Copy somebody else who's not doing business. There are people out there who are better at this thing than you. Don't try to reinvent the wheel. Find a trailblazer who's failing and become just like them.
  4. Be an island to yourself. America is all about rugged individualism and every man (woman) for himself (herself), isn't it? Avoid being part of a team or attending team meetings. Pull yourself up by your own bootstraps. Don't admit weakness or a need for help or guidance.
