EJ&E railroad -- Will Clog Traffic in Chicago's Northwest Suburbs - Meetings in Mundelein and Barrington and Bartlett

By
Real Estate Agent with Buyer Broker Chicagoland - CHICAGO IL AND SUBURBS

A meeting over the Canadian National purchase of the EJ&E railroad occurs tonight in Mundelein. Tonight's meeting in Mundelein is scheduled for 4 to 9 p.m. at the Crown Plaza Chicago North Shore, 510 E. Route 83. Please be there to protest.

Besides clogging traffic - there about about 12 other negatives - including the fact that emergency vehicles (fire, ambulence etc.) might not be able to get to where they need to be for an emergency. All the negatives might impact home values in the area. There will be more air pollution etc. The web site "Lake County Motorist" has more details.

The Surface Transportation Board, a three-member presidentially appointed board that has final say on the deal, is hosting meetings throughout the region to give residents a final chance to voice their opinion on the controversial plan to route more freight traffic over the EJ&E.

In Barrington, more than 3,000 people are expected at Barrington High School, 616 W. Main St., for Wednesday's meeting with the STB

Wednesday's meeting starts at 4 p.m. with a two-hour open house. Representatives from the STB will be available to answer questions and help the public review project maps and findings of the recently released draft environmental impact study. etween 6 and 9 p.m., a public meeting is scheduled where STB officials will take formal comments on the impact study.

Shuttle bus stops include: Field of Dreams on Hart Road, north of the high school; the Village Church of Barrington, 1600 E. Main St.; Grove Avenue School, 900 S. Grove Ave.; Healthworld, 1301 S. Grove Ave.; and the Barrington Metra station, south of Lake Cook Road, east of Hough Street. Parking will also be available at the high school and across the street at the PepsiCo building, 617 W. Main St.

There is also a meeting on Thursday at Bartlett High School, also from 4 to 9 p.m., 701 Schick Road.

The STB is using the comments collected to help determine the overall impact of the deal. I don't know of anyone in Chicago's Northwest Suburbs who wants the train.

The final impact study is expected to be released sometime between Dec. 31 and Jan. 31.

Are you planning to march with NSBAR, other REALTORS and community groups in the rally on Wednesday? There are plans to meet in the Staples parking lot at 4:15 (away from the store entrance). Thanks for posting this, by the way.
