Where where u on 9/11?

I remember I was sleeping in that morning, and sorta half-way watching TV. I was hearing them talk about somthing on the news, but not really listening!! All of a sudden I set up and bed and started watching what was going on. I couldn't believe it, and with in a few minutes there comes the second plane. WOW, can you believe this, watching this live on the TV news.
I remember when the shuttle exploded, I was working in Charlotte on Independence Blvd at Crown Subaru. It must of been 96 or 97 for the General Manager, who was from Florida, had turned on the TV in the showroom to watch the launch. I really didn't care that much about it, but since the TV sit behind my desk I had to get up and watch. And there just a few seconds after the launch it exploded. Wow! another terrible thing in our history I saw live on TV.
I haven't lived in Charlotte all my life, I was born in Statesville, and grew up on a dairy farm in Stony Point, between Hickory, Statesville and Lenoir. Kinda like the Bermuda Triangle of the country. But I still president Kennedy being shot, then the TV showing the transfer of Lee Harvey Oswalt and Jack Ruby just walking up and shooting him. I really didnt understand what had happened, it was so fast. Wow! another picture in my brain.
Then there was the day Robert Kennedy was walking thru the kitchen and Sirhan Shirhan just walked up and shot and killed him. Wow! another day.
There have been lots of days in my life that Iwill never forget and never be able to erase the memory of these tragic events.
But 9/11 is the one that has changed the way we live in America. It has changed our economic climate and made everything harder to deal with. From flying, just a couple weeks ago I took a flight out of Charlotte NC to Austin TX to the home offices of Keller Williams Realty. Here I am walking thru the metal detector and sometaps me on my shoulder, you need to remove your shoes. I guess I didn't realize that, so now quickly so my laptop and wallet and stuff don't get away from me, I pop my shoes in the little grey box. I made it. Always a little panic when you have all your important papers on the other side and there you stand waiting to get thru.
We must remember 9/11 and remember we are at war and to stand for America, and not against the freedoms we have and our boys are fighting for around the world. Its Important, remember 9/11
thanks

Hi Gary,

I was getting ready to go into the office.  I had turned on the TV just in time to see the second plane go into the building.  I then just stood in my living room.  Shocked and in horror that a plane could get that far off track much less two.  It still had not set into me that we were under attack.  Not until the third plane hit the pentagon.  That was when I was on the telephone to a very good friend who worked in DC and told him to get out of town NOW.  I agree we can NEVER forget that day and how it has changed America.   But if you remember the rest of 2001, people were different.  I do not remember a single case of road rage that I saw.  And, I see a lot of it now.   No matter where you went, you had the feeling of American Pride.

As for the shuttle explosion, I first think of the one in 1986.  I had just gone to work for the FDIC in Oklahoma City.   We had a TV in the break room and everyone was trying to squeeze in to see it.  I had to get something signed and went into my bosses office.  It was that day he and I became close friends.  He was at his desk, with tears in his eyes.

As for President Kennedy being shot...I was in my second grade class in Hawaii.  My father was military and I was a lucky kid, living in Hawaii.  I know it was morning there and my teacher came in crying and announced that our President had been shot.  All I could think of is oh no, my daddy's going to war.

Another where were you moment was when the Oklahoma City bombing took place.  I am now in Dallas but in 1990 passed on an opportunity to go to work for HUD in Oklahoma City.  If I had, I might just not be typing this.

Our Nation lost her innocence.  We owe it to our kids and Grandkids to get it back.

Gary,

I was on Long Island, only 50 miles from the WTC.  Many of my friends were there that horrible day.  One friend was supposed to be on the 103rd floor but his son broke his collar bone the day before and asked his dad to stay home because he was in so much pain.  Another friend we didn't hear from until 3pm or so when he finally was able to get reception on his cell phone while walking across the 59th street bridge!

A scary time!  That is why I live in Florida now.

I was in my buddies living room preparing to call in sick from being hung over. I turned the tube on and was amazed in what was happening. Then we started the drinking process all over again. Its a huge blow that unfortunately will be numbed out by time as Pearl Harbor was before this. We will never win another war without the authority to do what we did in Japan Hiroshima. We have become to politicly correct and egotistical. Although it was horrible what happened in Japan and continues to haunt the remaining survivors, we at least are eating sushi now instead of still waging a never ending war. The mind set that you need to have is if we dont they will. As a veteran of the Army, 11b 82nd Airborne hooooraaa this is my opinion.
