In the past few weeks I have had the pleasure of meeting many new people ,  many of whom have had many question about Georgetown so I have put together a  few intesting facts that should be of interest

"The Big City"
Georgetown is only minutes from the neighboring cities of Brampton,  Mississauga. and Vaughan. While larger urban centres like Toronto and Hamilton are less than 60 kms away.

Toronto Pearson International Airport
Canada's busiest airport is a short 33 kilometre (20 miles) drive away.

Georgetown's GO Train/VIA Rail Station
Is conveniently located close to the Silver Creek Ridge site. 

 

 

Interesting Facts About Georgetown 

  • Georgetown is one of the fastest growing communities in the GTA and Canada
  • The population is 47,600 (in 2002), it has a labour force of 24,020 and an average family income of $66,589
  • Georgetown's total land area is 284.7 square kms,
  • It's part of the municipality of Halton Region.
  • Until 1974 the Regional Municipality of Halton or Halton Region was known as Halton County
  • Regional Municipality of Halton or Halton Region is currently comprised of the City of Burlington, Towns of Oakville, Milton & Halton Hills
  • Halton Hills is an amalgamated community, consisting of two urban centres, Georgetown and Acton surrounded by a rural area
  • Halton Region has a population of 375,229 in 2001 spread out over 232,000 acres (939 square kms) of land
  • Population estimates project a population of 439,000 in 2006 - making it one of the fastest growing regions in the country. Despite this agriculture and protected lands along the Niagara Escarpment are still the predominant land uses.
  • Current Mayor of Halton Hills is Rick Bonnette & the Town Council consists of three Councillors representing each of the town's 4 wards
  • Georgetown is nicknamed "The Home Of The Little NHL" because of the great amount of citizens of all ages who play in the GMHA.
