Eliminate telephone exchange headaches
Asterisk by Digium and trixbox is an open source linux base free PBX solution but it requires linux administration knowledge as well as SQL knowledge that only a few posses.
3CX http://www.3cx.com/phone-system/ is a windows based free solution that does NOT required a dedicated PC to operate and it supports up to 8 lines analog or VoIPs simultaneously. It supports all the bells and whistles such as call switching, routing, queuing, unlimited extensions (with the Small Business edition starts from $595.00), a web interface for administration and configuration, paging/intercom and other features.
The use of a PBX does NOT eliminate the cost for the telephone lines. So you can have a FREE PBC system by 3CX installed in a windows pc but you will still have to pay for the lines connecting to it. Traditionally PBX's started from $6,000 + dollars.
