How to Provide Excellent Service to Your Real Estate Clients...Return their Calls!

By
Real Estate Agent with Lucky Star Realty 01708681

Tonight I was walking my client through with signing he's disclosure documents over the phone (I had emailed them over to him because he lives 4 hours away in Santa Rosa and his property is here in Eureka) and he mentioned that he liked me better than the other real estate agent that he had been working with.  I asked him why, and he replied, that I had returned his phone calls!

I was surprised because I usually always try to return clients' phone calls within the hour and I was under the impression that all agents adhere to this unspoken code.  But apparently not, because although the last agent my client was with is from a big company and had been practicing real estate for years, my client still favors me because I am courteous, patient, answers his questions and explains things clearly, and I return all my client's calls.

So to all real estate agents out there who want to be successful, remember to always return your client's phone calls, emails and text messages, even if it is at the end of the day because your client will appreciate you for it.

For more information about real estate in Humboldt County, Del Norte County and the cities of Crescent City, Eureka, Arcata, Fortuna, McKinleyville and other surrounding area, feel free to give me a call, because you know that I will always try to return your calls promptly.

YES.  Please respod to people.  It helps a lot.  I hate when I don't get a call back from a Realtor, or any salesperson for that matter.

I always return phone calls before the end of the day or it weighs on my mind as well.... even if I have to leave a message.

Yes, the key is to return all messages of all form in a timely matter.  This lets your clients know that you are interested in their needs.

If I can't personally return my phone calls within an hour, I have my personal assistant or someone from my office clear my voice mails and let the callers know that I am in meetings, showing property, etc.  They offer to see if they can help the caller and if they can't, they offer the time when I will be available to return the phone calls.

I have written a post on this myself.  My hang up has been with other agents not returning calls back to me in a timely matter.  So many situation and reasons I needed that call back.  It has damaged my business by being tied up waiting for a call back

Thavisak  I can't count the number of clients I pick up simply because the "agents" theyer were working with did not ever return their calls.

My phone is always with me. If im not with a client its my top priority. I dont understand why so many advertise and then wont answer the phone when it rings.

Not only return calls daily, but within a short period of time.  Agents who have on their voice messages that calls will be returned at a specific time each day are doing their business a great disservice.

Wow! Everyone has a great point and thank you for sharing your personal stories about this issue.  I agree that agents should return calls to other agents as well in a timely manner, and that we should respect our clients and colleagues enough to call them back.

As the managing Broker, the call I do not want to get is the one that says "I have not heard from my agent". The good news is has been a long time since I got one of those...and better not ever get one. Your right on...communicate!

Lucky,

You would think that something as simple as this would be a priority with everyone.  Sadly, it's not.  I would take your advice one step further:

If a client asks you a question that requires follow-up, give them a time frame in which you will return their call.  For example, "Great question, Ms. Jones, I don't have an answer for you right now.  I'll do some digging and get back to you by 3 p.m. today."

And, when 3 comes, CALL WHETHER YOU HAVE THE ANSWER OR NOT!  It will keep them from guessing and even if you don't have the answer, your client will be impressed that you thought of them and trust that you are taking care of them.

What else do we have in this business if we don't have our word?

Great post, Lucky.  Keep up the good work!

Maryellen
