Literally, this is food for thought! A buyer called out something I thought was a little quirky when I was recently showing a house. She mentioned the location of the dishwasher. Something I think I've given very little thought to in my lifetime as an adult. But, I do live close to the Culinary INstitute of America (CIA), and my client where my client is a student studying to be a chef.
Now, I've owned 5 houses. Most of the time my dishwasher was to the left of the sink. In my current home it is positioned to the right of my sink. I must admit, that being right-handed, a dishwasher located to the right of my sink makes for easier loading. As far as putting away dishes, I think it all depends on the lay out and design of the kitchen - where the dishes, utensils, and silverware are stored.
I thought of this again this morning, as I was loading my dishwasher. I remembered that my mother has a dishwasher to the left of her sink, my daughter's is to the right. I thought back to times when I am visiting either one of them and I confirmed today that the dishwasher to the right of the sink would indeed be my first choice. Again, as a right-hander.
Certainly, the location of a dishwasher would not be a deal breaker for me!
Do you have a preference - based on comparison of "Kitchen Duty" in various homes??
