I'm Ready... The Shotgun is Loaded If My Neighbor Returns to My Backyard!

By
Real Estate Agent with HomeXpress Realty SL3199320

I'm not usually a violent man...

I have never been much for violence.  As a matter of fact I don't even own a gun or rifle.  Now I am not one that is against the NRA or anybody that owns a gun.

As a matter of fact, I had to borrow a gun from a friend of mine so I could protect my property. I borrowed a 410 Shotgun from Jim.  I distinctly remember the conversation.

Me:  Jim, I need to borrow one of your guns.

Jim:  You need a gun?

Me:  Yeah, for tonight.

Jim:  What's going on?

Me:  I want to shoot my neighbor.

Jim:  What for?

Me:  I found out this morning that he and his family were in my backyard last night.

Jim:  Well, you want a .22?  It's not likely to kill him, but he'll know your serious.

Me:  No, I want to kill him and any of the rest of his family I can get at the same time.

Jim:  Your going to need my 410 Shotgun most likely, but you'll want to be within 30 yards of him.

Me:  Oh, I'll be within 30 yards.  I just need to wait for him and his brude to start coming up my backyard and BAM!

Now anybody that has been following my blogs knows I love River Hills here in Valrico and I have loved my neighbors up until now.  Those that follow my blogs may recall that I live on a conservation area.  Eleven hundred acres of natural Florida woods split in the middle by the Alafia River.

But, now there is a problem neighbor.

Hogs have come from the woods and torn up about a third of my backyard.

Now, the truth is I really am one of those non hunters that respect the rights of others to hunt.  But, I am going to call a trapper to solve this problem.

I suspect I will learn a few things about pigs and how to keep them from destroying my backyard.

But, a little help from my friends will be accepted.  So what should I do?

Wow! Was that area looking just like the rest of the lawn before the Hogs? What in the world are they digging for? I thought all you had down in your parts was alligators!

Good luck with them hogs.

Hi William ~  Believe it or not, in the county I live in, hogs are considered nuisense and we can shoot them on our own property.  That possibility is still there.

Hi Bob and Bonnie ~ yes, we had a very manicured lawn and the damage you see is what they have actually done.  As far as "what in the world are they digging for?," as best as I can tell, I think they are looking for real estate buyers.  At least what they accomplished overnight is the way I feel at the end of the day.

I looked in the beginning of your post that you wanted to shoot YOUR neighbors....NOT their pigs.....

I was ALMOST going to remove this post from,"Christianity and Real Estate".....

You type like I do sometimes........ I had to really get farther into your post to know what you were talking about....

Have you TALKED to your neighbors about his pigs???

If so and you have warned him...shooting them would make a NICE pig roast and party afterwords!!!

Do you have a GRILL for such an occasion?

;-)

Rick - My nephew lives down in Bradenton and had that problem a few years ago.  I never did ask him how they got rid of them.  Now, I'm not so sure I want to know.  I don't recall attending a pig roast at his house though.  LOL

Alex ~ I'm afraid I am a fan of O. Henry short stories from high school days.  Sometimes I write or tell stories with a surprise ending.  But, it did not cross my mind to clear this one with the sensors.  LOL

Hey Bob, good to hear from you again.  My 23 year old son wants to have a bar-b-que, but his mother is a little sqeemish about the idea.  But, Sun City is a short drive and if the son wins, you will be invited for sure.

That looks like alot of damage and I think you should consider sticking to your gun idea.  Maybe the noise will scare them away if not get out your pig roaster and have a party.

We love barbecue in SC let us know.  When we lived in Fla we had several that roamed the golf course also 2 large gators, they had to have all of them trapped, and i guess they ended up lunch too!  Seriously they can be mean and will chase you be careful, they are mean.  Maybe trapper is a better idea.

Hi Kathy ~  I have had some great BBQ in the "True" south.  Several years ago I had a job that took me across all of the southeast.  Over a 3 year period I made a point to go to "THE" BBQ joint of greatest reputation.

I have had ribs in Memphis, Kansas City, Charlotte, Knoxville, Birmingham, Atlata to name a few.  Somewhere in this house is a journal.  That was a gain 15 pounds hobby in that period of my life.

Ha ha ha! I remember the looks of the torn up property so well! Piney woods rooters I called them.  I have a beautiful tusk necklace made from one of those rooters who charged my then husband, Mr. Blackmon!

Oh my God, Susie!

If I read this righ you said "I have a beautiful tusk necklace made from one of those rooters who charged my then husband, Mr. Blackman!"  Your "then husband?'  Did the pig kill your "then' husband?  Or perhaps you?

Doubt a 4-10 shotgun will contribute much to your pig roast.

Might want something with a little more kick.

Can't blame you.  They are damaging critters.  To bad you couldn't fence them out.

Enjoy the barbeque!

Guess that is what happens when people collide with wildlife, they kill the wildlife... That is a good picture of pig rooting, LOL.

That is not good and certainly calls for action.  I would call the local cops and see what your options are that are legal, I'd also consult animal control.
