Why SUPRA Key systems are better than any other Locks for Real Estate (must read)

Just recently in Las Vegas several homes have been robbed because the locks were not SUPRA Key Lock systems.

I have come across combination locks and other type of ways to lock homes when trying to sell in the Real Estate market and really in my opinion SUPRA Key systems best lock systems, especially if the sellers are still living in the home.

In Las Vegas, Nevada thieves have found a way to get information over the Internet and combination lock numbers. With this information the thieves will actually go to these home with huge moving trucks when the sellers are gone and steal valuables, furniture, etc.

With the Holidays around the corner, make sure you have some type of plan set up for your sellers.

 1) Neighbors aware of any moving trucks, etc. when the sellers are not moving at that specific time.

 2) Using the SUPRA Key locks systems because you have to be a Licensed Real Estate Agent to have one and do not borrow your keys out to anyone because you become liable if anything happens to that home.

 3) When the sellers are away for the Holidays leave lights on at night, and once again let neighbors know that the sellers are out of town. And drive by on the weekends and double check locks, etc., in the homes.

I know some Agents don't like the SUPRA key systems because there expensive and it looks like I might be trying to advertise for SUPRA Key. But I am not and don't be cheap Agents, do what ever you can to secure the safety of your sellers homes.

And don't let them be victim's of a idea that thieves have been using for quite some time!

I love our electronic lockbox systems by supra they are the best hands down. They are virtually bad guy proof and offer better security for our clients.

WOW!  I had not heard about this.  Not surprising to me though.  I have had two instances where escrows were burglarized since September.  Both were vacant, however.  In one the Spa got stolen out of the backyard, HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN WITHOUT A NEIGHBOR NOTICING?  In another it was stripped down including the copper and the burglar entered through the back door.

I rarely see a mechanical unless it is a rental or REO.  Rentals are almost always vacant with the mechanicals on them.  REO requires (more often than not) the agent to use mechanical so their other authorized reps can enter the property - but, again, most still add an electronic Supra to the house.

I pulled some stats for you that are interesting:

Listings:  21627

  • Electronic (Supra):  11367
  • Mechanical:  4330
  • None:  5474
  • Other:  130
  • Both:  326

Occupied Listings:  8508

  • Electronic:  4188
  • Mechanical:  242
  • Both:  5
  • None:  4036
  • Other:  37

It is unfathomable for me to understand why an electronic box wouldn't be installed on an occupied home!  It is a definite crap shoot that some burglars got into the 2.8% of the occupied homes to do that.   I use both and they both have their uses.  Even so, when most agents put a mechanical on an occupied house, they still need to call for code.

The only thing I hate about electronic boxes is that you get feedback stalked by some agents who pull the showing data and call you two weeks later after you have shown 50-100 homes and cannot remember which home they are talking about...LOL

Hi Robert,

I hadn't heard of the problem out there, but it is understandable. Folks, bad guys included, will take advantage of any opportunity available. Supra keys are the best. Yes they are costly, but in the longrun less expensive.

Our County used to have Supra, but now we have sentricard.  What were on the homes that have been robbed?  We as agents should try to educate and protect our clients.  To get robbed is a devastating experience and a feeling of intrusion.

We use SupraKey and I agree agents should use them.  Combination locks are not very secure.

Hi Vegas Bob!

Have you ever used a RISCO system?

Our board here in Salt Lake uses RISCO but we are switching to SUPRA next month.

I have really liked the RISCO system, but it is the only I have used.  If you have used RISCO, can you compare the two for me?  Or can anyone else help?

btw, I hate 'feedback stalkers!'  But I love the name you give the practice.  Seriously, there should be a course you have to take before your allowed to call for feedback.  I have stories...

One agent called me recently about a showing from a week prior.  I asked her to describe the house: well, it has 4 beds, three baths, and granite...you can see that gets us nowhere.  After a few back and forths, I ask, is it the one with the GIANT SALT WATER TANK in the LIVING ROOM?  She says...I think so!!!  Wow. You gotta appreciate that kind of in depth knowledge of your product!

If that was you and you are reading this:  SORRY but you know it happened just that way!
