No one should go hungryOn Wednesday, November 19th from 5pm to 9pm bring THIS FLYER to The Old Spaghetti Factory with you and 15% of the proceeds will benefit the Monument Crisis Center.

I was just on the Crisis Center website to find this flyer to share with you.  On the press page there was a statement saying they've been very low on food the last two months and even had to close for a couple of days due to lack of food.

The Crisis Center provides food, education, assistance, referrals to families and individuals in crisis situations, and promotes community awareness of needs and available resources to at-risk and low income people in Contra Costa County. I'm not a fan of the Crisis Center running out of food.

In addition to these urgently needed food items:

  • Breakfast cereal (low sugar)
  • Instant oatmeal
  • Peanut butter
  • Canned soup and broth
  • Canned meals
  • Dry soup (cup of noodles/Top Ramen)
  • Pasta, rice, pinto beans
  • Macaroni & cheese, pasta-roni
  • Baking items: cake/cookie mix
  • Snacks, granola bars, crackers

The Crisis Center is also asking for donations of diapers (especially sizes 4, 5 and 6), sleeping bags, shopping carts, bicycles, winter coats, toiletries, back to school supplies.

You can donate via paypal here.  You can find donation bins at local Safeway and Lucky stores.

Remember, your local food banks need your help throughout the year, not just during the holidays.  We can't do everything for everyone, but we can do one little thing that will help someone.  Please take some time and do what you can to help a low income family.

Chris, I always donate when I can get to the places....I wish they had some closer drop off centers though.  There is so much more people would be able to do with convenient places to help these pantrys and shelters collect the food.  Thank you for reminding all of us who are more fortunate.

Chris - This is the case across the country, similar agencies find themselves low on supplies just as the need escalates.  We all need to remember to lend a hand.

Right before we left Ohio there were many stories in the news about the local food banks running out of food.  That is a very sad commentary on our society as a whole.

We are the land of plenty - supposedly.  What has happened to us?

I'll pray that your area, along with all the others, will flourish soon and there won't be as much need for the services of the food banks.  That's hopeful, I know, but it never hurts to have hope.

Carole - Here they put bins at the grocery stores so we can donate as we enter or leave the store.  Maybe you could suggest that to your local food banks?  Much easier than driving out to the bank itself.  Thanks for helping!

Elizabeth - Thank you for the feature, I appreciate it!

Jennifer - It's easy to get wrapped up in what's going on in our lives and forget there are those who need such a basic thing as food.  I can't imagine that, so I try to keep it in mind and help.

Carol - You are right, hope sure can't hurt!  I will send out similar thoughts to the universe.  We'll get there, we just have to keep going one day at a time.

That was it great that they donate money to a good cause.

I love the Spaghetti Factory. Wish we had one in Idaho Falls or Vernal.

Hi Julie - That is too bad you don't have one near you.  I love the Spaghetti Factory too, especially veggie lasagna with mushrooms.  They do this for different causes throughout the year, which is nice.  They are always packed, so I don't think they have to do it for the business.

Our closest Spaghetti Factory is in Salt lake so I don't get there too often.
