This is the island that brought me to Grapeview 25 years ago. Being connected by bridge to the mainland, there is no ferry wait. Surrounded by Case Inlet, it is the perfect place to own a waterski boat as the children grow up on the beaches. It was rural claiming Washington's first bonded winery and the uplands contained many vineyards. I enjoyed living on the island and bought 5 acres on the waterfront. My company, SchonWood, Inc., produced thousands of sleds for Eddie Bauer catalog sales.

These sled were built by us in the Olde St. Charles Winery on Stretch Island. Long hours were put in with the cutting, sanding, design work, and varnishing. The sled on the right was sold in the Eddie Bauer Christmas catalog. We made about 1800 of them and hauled them to the Seattle warehouse.

That is really cool Kristian. I had no idea!We have a lot of great local history here. We could put together one of those tours for people who visit, like they do in the Seattle area.-Dinah Lee
