creative way to make a bolster style "pillow"

By

I was doing a staging job recently and really needed a bolster style pillow for a chair.  I didn't have one that looked just right so I was trying to be creative and hit upon a cool idea to create a "pillow".  In that this was a vacant house, I wasn't too worried about it being dismantled.

I took a velvety table runner that had tassles on it, then rolled uptable runner pillow a bath towel.  I then wrapped the table runner around the towel with the tassles facing forward.  It looked just like a cool throw pillow - exactly what the space needed.  Unfortunately I didn't get a close up shot of it in the room, but I just destaged and re-created the look for the post.  It's just on my own sofa but I think you can get the idea. You can also wrap it around other pillows or things of other shapes to create the look.

This particular table runner was a square one that has tassels at 4 corners.  I usually use it swirled on a table around a floral arrangement but here's another use for it!

Cool idea, Liz! I just love the creativity that results from unexpected problems. I once heard that the best jobs are not those with no problems, but those with interesting problems. Staging certainly fits that description!

That's a great idea!  Spur of the moment ideas that come from necessity are usually the best!  Sometimes our minds work better when we don't have a lot of time to think about it.

Thanks for the post. I remember during my first staging job that we used a gold velvet wall hanging to cover a pillow on a bed. the homeowner asked us where we bought the lovely pillow as she would like to have one just like it. she was delighted when we told her that it was her wall hanging we found folded up in her closet.

I love making something from nothing.  I once made a coffee table from a bookshelf and a piece of glass from a TV stand.  The homeowner could not bleieve it when he saw what we had done.

Good job and thaks for sharing.

I have done that, I even used a table runner for a small valance in the kitchen once. I remember Judy Heinrich cut one in half and used it as a decorative small towel over a larger towel in the bathroom. They are best things

Once I used a beautiful ascot valance OVER a pillow to create a punch of color on a bed. I love the spur of the moment ideas that pop in and out of our heads..that is why we don't sleep half the time, LOL

This is great! I did a similar, but larger wrap to create a side pillow for a studio where I wanted the bed to also 'read' as a daybed or sofa. I love it when we use 'smoke & mirrors'!
