Many of us that work on our own websites will use a meta tag analyzer or an SEO analysis tool. These sites will break down your website and tell you how your meta tags, keyword density and other attributes conform to their guidelines. We use it on occasion for a breakdown BUT seldom adhere to the warnings they give us. If you google website analysis tool  there are a ton of sites. Here are some of their reports

Meta tags report: Includes title, description, keywords and robots. THIS is important, although we often will not even use keywords on some pages. Must be relevant to the website. Concentrate on title and description.

Meta tags analysis: You MUST have a good title and description, can you repeat words? You are not supposed to, but we do, i.e. Atlanta Homes For Sale Atlanta Real Estate. Relevancy: This is a piece of cake, if your title and description tags wording is on your page your relevancy is 100%. If yours is not, copy your tags and place them at the bottom of your page.

Web page analysis: Warning! This page contains too many URLs! Hah! Some of our pages contain 500 links, penalized? NO! Here is the kicker, they must be relevant, area info, local communities, subdivisions, places of interest. Warning! your website is to big. Not necessarily, if you are on dial-up and it takes a while for our site to load, you probably cannot buy a home anyway.

Keywords found in anchor tags & keyword density: Often we get the bold lettering telling us we have used a particular word to often. We ignore it, we do not try to blatantly repeat a word or phrase over and over. There is a difference between good content and keyword stuffing.

Keywords found in alt tags: Alt tag all your photos, logos, and if you copy someones logo or picture, change the alt tag.

We have tried different analysis tools and one will report differently than another. One might say no more than 70 characters in a title when another says 80. Same contradiction for descriptions and keyword tags. Bottom line? Take these analysis reports with a grain of salt, you are not breaking any rules. Good Luck!

Frank and Jodi, thank you for that wonderful information.  At times, it is very confusing.  I was actually wondering if they had a SEO book for dummies.  Now I know.  Thanks again.  kevincavanaughonline.com

The google analytics is the site we use to measure traffic.  Its definitely a confusing topic to start off with, and takes a decent amount of time for me to get a hang off what is actually going on.  I feel a lot more confident now.

The #3 you mention is partially correct. I have a friend at google they will only rate so many of those links regardless of relevance.

Kevin, no problem, it is not as confusing as you think. There really are only a few items you must do correctly.

Morgan, love google analytics, and it's free! Best thing since sliced bread.

Heather, That does not surprise me that they only rate a certain number, thanks for the tip. Seems the amount of links does not matter.

I have wondered about this myself. I have done several different analyses and one says your title is too long, you description is too long etc. Didn't know about adding the description to the bottom of page as well. Thanks. ~Rita

Google decided I was on here too much, or I was too redundant in my meta tags, or both. They wiped my name off the list all together with certain search criteria!

Rita, All the SEO anaysis sites will give you a different grade. Our description will always have all the words from the title and a few more relevant terms.

Chuck, Yikes! Were you using duplicate pages?
