I am starting to store more and more files and photos on my Flash Drive; it's very convenient.
Recently though, I lost all the information on my flashdrive in the blink of an eye. My mistake was that I simply pulled the flashdrive out when I was done. I felt terrible, so I thought I'd pass along a quick procedure I was taught in order to protect your FlashDrive against total loss of information.
When you are ready to remove it:
- don't just pull it out of the USB port like I did when I lost my data!!!!
- close all files that are stored on the flashdrive that you were working on
- in the lower right hand corner of the desktop screen there are a number of small icons on the taskbar
- hovering your mouse pointer over them will cause a popup description of the icon to appear
- click on the icon that says "Safely Remove Hardware"
- when you do, one or more items will appear
- click on the drive that represents your FlashDrive
- a window will appear that says something like "It's safe to remove your hardware"
- then you can pull your flashdrive out of the USB port! This process takes about 20-30 seconds, but will save you MUCH grief!
