I had two page moving up googles positioning the were in the top 20 for search terms I was after.....  They are no longer showing uner the search terms, my home ppage is.  Wondering why.  Can anyone enlighten me?

http://www.thehousewiz.com/Andover_Real_Estate/page_2138950.html

This Andover Real Estate page was showing up at about 10th position with the Keywords Andover MA Real Estate.  Google is not even including it in the top 100 positions.  As of Friday it was doing well.

http://www.thehousewiz.com/Tewksbury_Real_Estate/page_2137842.html

The Tewksbury Real Estate Page had made it to the 10th position on google on Friday.  Today it is in 63rd position.  Very disheartening, I was working so hard on placement for these pages and now I have no idea why google has bumped them.  I also added the last quarter sold for the community linked from the page.

I am always tweaking the pages but the last major thing I did was add a news feed from topix on the bottom of the page.  Could that have done it?

Any help would be appreciated.

Tewksbury Real Estate, Tewksbury MA Real Estate and Tewksbury Massachusetts Real Estate

Thes were all positioning well and moving up fast.

Do not know why you lost rank, but, the title tag "Andover Real Estate" should be longer in my opinion. Add the state, homes for sale, tewksbury. The other title "Tewksbury Massachusetts Real Estate and Homes for sale" looks pretty good. remove and, google ignores it...

Ill try that.... do you think adding the rss feed from topix was a mistake?  also the pages are getting large.  Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Expecting to rank well for a phrase Andover Real Estate is expecting way way too much out of a search engine. This is how many results there are Results 1 - 10 of about 353,000 for Andover Real Estate. (0.17 seconds)

Why would it be fair to show your result of a single article you wrote before the 353,000 other pages about this subject? That doesnt make much sense.

What you are experiencing is an initial "bonus" when you first started writing articles about that. Now they are normalizing the results. I wouldnt expect to ever rank well for that phrase again, not for a single article. You can get your site to rank well after some time but you are competing wtih 353,000 other pages. It has nothing to do with the rss or the size of the pages and everything to do with the competition for that phrase.

Its not that Google didnt index that article its just that there is no reason why that single article you wrote should be more relevant in results than the 353,000 other results.

Don't concern yourself with size, I have some sites with tons of links and info and they are very successfull. SEO Website Analysis, WARNING, Your Website Has To Many Links! Website Analysis Tools I do not pay attention to many of the analysis sites...

I have never had that happen before.  I just want to make sure I am doing nothing to get penalized.

Kevin,
I have about a dozen sites that I have worked with.  When I initially put a page out there I typically can get it ranked pretty high up on google for the term I am looking for.  Then it falls off shortly after that.  My GUESS would be that google sees it as new material and activity with the page initially (being that you just put it out there and probably are visiting it often to check it) and then once it is out there there is not any traffic, etc. and then it falls off.  Happens to me a lot.  Hope that is helpful.

I have a very strange feeling that the Topix news feed was hurting me.  I removed it and now they are shoing up and moving up the position.  I ran a program and it showed the news feed causing about 15 incidents of duplicate content.

Kevin,

For the Tewksbury page move the "real estate" keyword to the top, then the city and state. Please remember  that search engines are a moving target.

No I meant in the KEyword section of your website. Login, click edit, select, Page Name and Search Engine Information,

On the following screen you have 5 boxes

  1. Page Name
  2. Browser Title
  3. Meta Description
  4. Meta Keywords
  5. Meta robots (check IF you DO NOT want that page indexed)

Boxes 2-4 should all have the same keywords.

Browser Title: Short Description(similar to meta description)

Meta Description: Communicate with the consumer and search engines at the same time.

Keywords:wrtite to the search engine

Let me know how it works,

Alex

BY the way I just checked my ranking for "real estate westchester ny" and was 35 out of 29,000,000+. in Yahoo. Not bad with a standard point 2 website.

Quick update.

I lost my positioning in google right after including a topix rss feed.  I ran a duplicate content checker and found out the rss feed was creating a ton of duplicate content from the original news sources.  Thinking thats the only change I made, I removed it.  Voila... moving back up the google posion and today I was between position 10 and 20 as opposed to a week ago.. There is some controversy about duplicate content.  I truly believe that affected me.

Good to know that. I will check my websites and see if I made the same mistake. I guess duplicate content is considered spam.

Pam- I really think the topix news feed kicked me out of the positions due to duplicate content.  I removed it and my keywords are position in the top 1-20 positions in no time at all.

Hi Kevin, I noticed yesterday that the google search results for the real estate searches have changed dramatically.  I started looking around Active Rain to see if I could find any info about it (I didn't).  What I noticed was that the real estate companies, newspapers, lead aggregrators, and other sites where agents can place (or pay for) profiles have filled the top slots.  The search results looked very different.  Many of these sites were there before but now they have the complete slate and there are definitely some new additions particularly the sites that have agent profiles.  I'm going to keep watching to see if it changes.
