The Ticket is in the Mail!!!

Driving in BremertonI am sure that this would never effect any of you reading this post because you would never run a red light or get stuck in a stale yellow. I however am not so pleased with the photo enforced lights. I have been known to actually make mistakes from time to time.

While this may save some embarrassment from being tagged on the side of the road- lights flashing, excuses stammering, all while you nervously dig for that registration you knew was in the glove box.Where is that $%@* thing?

I am not a big fan of the secret ticket that shows up in the mail unannounced. I like to at least have the chance to debate with the officer and plead my case on the spot. You never now it might work.

So how do you feel about photo enforced lights/ love em or hate em... I would love to hear your input on this subject.

Dinah Lee:  I am guessing you are not going to like my answer.  Seeing as how I cannot remember the last time I "ran" a red light... I think these photo-enforced lights are kinda fun.  Good for the local economy... keeps the local taxes down... etc.  LOL.

Dinah Lee, I understand the increased revenue for the cities, but I think that a ticket should be given out by a living breathing person, not a camera!  They should earn that money!

Dinah: Photo enforced tickets force people to be aware of their surroundings. If you're not breaking a law I hear you never receive one.

I think i got a photo radar ticket just this week.  I seen the flash in my rear view mirror after it was too late.  The only thing i dislike about them is that they tag you for 1 mph over the limit.

I can't imagine they'd tag you for 1mph over.  The courts can't expect you not to drift above by 1mph when you're keeping pace with your foot pressure.

I don't like those things.  I would rather get a ticket by a cop then getting a ticket from out of nowhere.

I think it is all about awareness. If you know they are there, it will cause everyone to slow down and be more vigilant.

They say they are for safety but most are really there for revenue. What really annoys me is the speed cameras in a 35 MPH zone and people slow down to 30 not to get a ticket. You need to be exceeding the speed limit by at least 10 MPH to trigger the camera.

Hate 'em!

But if it protects one life as a result of a lesson learned, then I guess it's done it's job.

You all had great points! I am still not a fan. Especially at a time when we are trying to jump start the economy. I vote for a living breathing person, that will work the job instead of a camera that can and will malfunction.-Dinah Lee

Hi Dinah Lee,

I tend to agree with you, especially about the malfunction part. And not just the camera malfunctioning, but the traffic light as well.

I witnessed an acident once, where a car 'seemingly' ran a red light. But that light had a problem that no one realized for quite some time. Periodically, it would cycle from green to yellow, then back to green before it turned red, temporarily causing cross-traffice to both have a green light at the same time.

But that would never happen to a camera, would it?  ; )

Funny but I just left a comment on another post about the same topic.  I wouldn't be in favor of cameras that track speeding but I am in favor of having cameras bag people for running red lights. I've noticed over the last few years in my area that drivers are acting like red lights are optional. It's ridiculous.  I really don't like intrusive government spying of any sort and I never like the argument that if you're not doing it why should you worry since all of my rights and liberties are important to me. But all that being said the cops can't be at every red light or stop sign so I would be ok with cameras for that purpose.

Personally I'm pretty sure that traffic tickets are a legal scam.  They just want the money.  They don't care about how fast you drive or minor driving infractions.  That's why tickets are so cheap.  In my opinion traffic cops are revenue officers for the state.  These photo based ticket systems are everywhere in Kansas City.  I think its just another example of robots taking over humans jobs.  Before we know it cops will be complaining that their being forced out of their jobs by machines.  Just like assembly line workers.

I think they are great, plus it allows police officers to spend more time in the donut shop.

I am not a big fan of the cameras. But I do think that they will save lives in the end. So let them do there job and get us to slow down and or stop on Yellow as opposed to running it.
