I read in the Charlotte Observer today that the Jonas Brothers, the ubiquitous musical group that is taking America by storm, visited a bunch of movie theaters to promote their new movie this weekend. They stopped by Regal Cinemas in Stonecrest, near Pineville and Ballantyne.
Nick, Joe and Kevin are surprising all kinds of people this weekend on their tour, which will take them all over the place on a private jet. They are met by screaming teenagers wherever they go.
They only jumped out of their car for a second before jumping back in and heading off to Atlanta. They started their tour in Las Angeles on Friday.
Will Smith did something similar a few months ago when whatever movie he had acted in was released. I guess this is the new marketing tactic that the studios have adopted to encourage a reluctant public to go out and spend some cash on movies these days.
Perhaps we could all take a lesson from these marketing geniuses. If I want to sell more houses, perhaps I should see if Rachel Ray or someone is available to show up and cook lunch for people when I'm showing the house. If your business is installing selling pasta, maybe you could get a basketball star to show up at the store to make people come.
Maybe I'm thinking about this all wrong. The idea is simple, getting celebrities to come out to the business where their products are sold is a no brainer. The genius was getting them to actually do it.
