Is the Whole World Going Topless Now?

By
Real Estate Agent with Surterre Properties

The words "topless" and "small town" do not usually go hand in hand, but in Vassalboro, Maine they've come together in the form of a coffee shop.

While times are tough, and many people taking on doom and gloom attitudes, employees at the coffee shop have great personalities, stating that they are "happy to be working."  Due to the popularity and uniqueness of the shop, servers make $30 on average per table, with an occasional $100 tip here and there.

The owner, Paul Crabtree, made a point to hire men and women of various sizes for his staff, which has gone over well with the 4,500 residents of the town and visitors.

What are your thoughts about businesses taking on a more risqué theme in order to keep profitable?

LOL @ Gary.  There are already some female agents that dress in a very revealing manner.

Michael~

We had a donut shop here in Fort Lauderdale, Florida a while back by the name of R-Donuts. I guess they served coffee too. I think it is a somewhat clever tactic to bring in customers- while alienating other potential customers. A thought just came to my mind that is better off not publishing, the thought was very funny!

I just stopped by to see if you included images in your post- I'm a bit disappointed.

Lets face it, SEX sells.

Or perhaps the coffee is really good too?

Michael, I'm sure theres no barker outside dragging people to come in. Once the novelty wears off we'll see if they can make it in the long run. I guess it gives Dunkin Donuts, DD, a whole new meaning. Rich

I have no problem with it as long as children are not exposed.  I do agree with Richard and believe that the novelty of seeing boobies at the coffee shop will wear off after a few months.

If this is done in real estate, "Open House" and "Showing" may need to be redefined.

How many $100 tips can keep coming in over time -- in this market -- now it is a novelty -- but for how long.

Nothing I hate worse than getting a chest hair in my mocha latte chino frapa grande expresso.  It is important for any business to have some sort of identity, this is just one of those things love it or hate it.

Hi Michael.  Sitting here with my morning coffee so it's a timely post for me to read.  I don't it would be a go (go-go?) in this area. The Clearwater beach area south of here just banned overly revealing beach wear... I'm cracking up over Rich Iarossi's comment!

Hi Michael, Interesting because Paul Henderson just recently wrote a post about this very same type of thing. Bikini coffee.  What will they think of next?

Not a real person
San Diego, CA

Once a Hooters moves into town, one will quickly realize that sex continues to sell. That is, if one never realized it before then.

From 1973 to 1993, I had a word processing business for college students at Texas A&M University, University of Houston, Rice University, Texas Southern University, and St. Mary's University. The name of my company was "Just Your Type." Was that "risque"? It went over well with the college students, and I made a lot of money, especially when I sold it to my competitor in 1993 so I could move to San Diego.
