Alamogordo
New Mexico Museum of Space History
With an IMAX Dome Theater and Planetarium and space age exhibits, this five-story building is nestled in the Sacramento Mountains. Programs include the Shuttle Camp summer program and the museum camp-ins. Don't miss the Astronaut Memorial Gardens!
Albuquerque
National Hispanic Cultural Center
You will find this great center on the banks of the Rio Grande River in the historic neighborhood of Barelas. Built in 1998, the center has grown to cover 50 acres! Programs include culture, arts, and humanities. They also house a "Research Library and Genealogy Center". Don't forget to check out the Culinary Center where you can sample great Hispanic cuisine!
New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science
Located in the old town area of Albuquerque and housing the LodeStar Astronomy Center, this is a perfect day activity for all. Check out the walk through volcano, ice cave, living forest, and marine aquarium. Make sure to see the show in the Lockheed Martin DynaTheater.
Las Cruces
New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum
Explore the past, present, and future of agriculture on 47 acres of interactive fun for all. Enjoy several gardens and orchards, watch cows being milked, or stop by the blacksmith's shop. Check out the Museum Grill, Eagle Ranch Gift Shop and more in the Bruce King building.
Santa Fe
Founded in 1917, and located on the corner of the historic plaza in Santa Fe, current exhibits include "Georgia O'Keeffe's Legacy in New Mexico" and "How the West is One, The Art of New Mexico". For more in-depth study, make an appointment to use the library and archives with over 7,500 volumes on art and photography.
Museum of Indian Arts and Culture
Located in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains on Museum Hill, the museum tells the story of the people of the Southwest. Current exhibits include "Spider Woman's Gift" and "Secrets of Casa Grandes". The Discovery Center is a hands-on area providing insight into Native Ways.
Museum of International Folk Art
Opened in 1953, the museum is the largest collection of folk art in the world. Current events include "Needles + Pins". Ongoing "Lloyd's Treasure Chest" allows visitors to interact with works not on display. The museum also hosts walks at the Milner Plaza Labyrinth.
New Mexico History Museum/Palace of the Governors
Originally constructed in the early 17th century, the museum now tells 400 years of New Mexico history through period rooms and exhibits. Collection highlights include Christopher "Kit" Carson, Francisco "Pancho" Villa, and Carrie Tingley.
