The Adventure Park at Sandy River Retreat Update: Closed for Winter, Reopens March 22, 2013  We're excited to announce the opening of a new local attraction, The Adventure Park at Sandy River Retreat on June 15,2012. This tree-top adventure park is the first of it's kind in the State of Virginia.  There are 47 obstacles including 11 zip lines, separated into four different course/trails (the easiest suitable for ages 7-9), similar to those found on a ski mountain. Each trail consists of elements like rope bridges, logs, cargo nets, swings, ladders, and zip lines. Safety is their highest priority; trained staff provide fitted harnesses and an instruction session before participants start the course. All participants are provided with a new state-of-the-art, safe permanent belay system th...

It's Okay to Be Different An Albino Deer Sighting in Prince Edward County Virginia   2 Nights ago, my family was heading into town, when my oldest son spotted this albino deer.  Unfortunately she was standing where the sunlight wouldn't let me get a really great shot and because I was on the way to the movies with my family I didn't have a great zoom camera with me.  But she was beautiful.  She just stared at us as we watched her.  I have had some really great signs lately!  Signs that life is really fantastic.  I hope you enjoy this sighting with me. Sometimes the little things that happen in Prince Edward County bring me the most joy.

Central Virginia is Home to Many Small Churches When I moved to Central Virginia from Northern Virginia I was amazed at how many people asked me "if I had found a church yet?"  It was a constant barrage of this one question from so many people.  While in Northern Virginia my family did not attend a church.  We never looked, never went and honestly never thought of going. I grew up in a family that was constantly seeking the "perfect worship experience" and it was only in my high school years that we settled into a church.  That period of time of settling was mostly because my parent's had teenage children that needed something to do~ so they joined a large church with tons of youth activities. Upon arriving in the country, my husband and I weren't really in search of a church or a churc...

Growing Flowers is a Rewarding Past Time--Central Virginia Flowers--Farmville Virginia     I love planting my flowers every year.  I enjoy the spring when I go and pick the new flowers I will add to my beds and the placement of the flowers.  This daisy looks a little wilted but the hummingbirds love it!  We plant at our house taking into account the birds, wildlife, and our pure enjoyment.  We have fields of flowers and cars stop and take photos.  This year the flowers aren't nearly as spectacular as they usually are because we are in desparate need of rain.  Enjoy your gardens they are great therapy.                       Daylillies are great in Central Virginia because they need only a little attention.                       Cosmos are a great field flower, they require only a little ...

Moving to the country provides space between neighbors that city dwellers are seeking.  Buyers will often come and stand in what could be their new front yard and stretch, and look around to measure the distance between them and their potential new neighbors.  I have seen homes on large amounts of acreage not be chosen by a buyer because the neighbor is just too close. There may be a bigger problem in the choice of a country home: a deed restriction. Frequently buyers who move to the country do so because they are tired of home owner associations, poor parking, noises, and lights.  I am sure their are many other reasons but these are the ones I hear over and over.  Because we do not have home owner association rules the buyers are often surprised that there may be deed restrictions on t...

Farmville Va Area Fabric Stores Rose Patch Creations - A hidden gem of a fabric store in Crewe VA             125 West Carolina AvenueCrewe, VA 23930-1803(434) 645-7780     Lib's Place - Located on Hwy 460 in Amelia it's a fabric store but so much more!                 23147 Prince Edward HwyRice, VA 23966-2403(434) 392-5427   The skill and beauty of quilting has long been a southern tradtion. Many women in our area continue this tradition of quilting today. While younger women may just be learning. But the challenge these days is where to find the material. The local Walmart has stopped carrying fabric, so many locals have started traveling to Lynchburg and Richmond. But I say WAIT....spend your money at locally....support your local merchants. ...
