positive attitude advice: The Park Is Open Until 8 p.m. - 03/12/09 10:16 AM

Chapter 12:  The Park is Open Until 8 p.m.

Is the glass half empty or half full?  Is it partly sunny or partly cloudy? When does the park close?  "The park is open until 8 p.m."
Sitting in the oncologist office Randy Pausch & his wife, Jai, learned that he had three to six months to live.  A flashback to his days at Disney World reminded him that the workers were supposed to answer, "The park is open until 8 p.m."  Randy and his wife decided at that point to fully enjoy each day and what time … (8 comments)

positive attitude advice: When the Going Gets Tough the Tough Go Fishing - 03/11/09 10:37 AM
The Lucky Catch with Captain Tom, Portland Maine

No, No, No..The Tough Get Back to Basics, right?  Today I attended a seminar titled Get Back to Basics, but my mind wandered to the sign on my husband's fishing boat,  When the Going Gets Tough the Tough Go Fishing.  Same idea, right?  This tough market has a lot of real estate agents whining about how tough it is to make a sale.  I have even found a few here in the rain.
What's the normal turnover rate for real estate agents?  In good years the failure rate is about 70%.  In bad years … (6 comments)

positive attitude advice: The Elephant in the Room - 03/09/09 10:29 AM
Everyone has heard the question, "How do you eat an elephant?" and the answer, "One bite at a time." Well, The Elephant in the Room is a title of chapter in Randy Pausch's The Last Lecture, but I couldn't help but think of eating the elephant when I read 30 Second Elevator Speech by Marvin de la Vega.  He didn't realize that he was giving his readers an excellent way to eat the real estate elephant in the room.  Randy started the Last Lecture by quoting his father who had said if there is an elephant in the room, introduce it.  Randy had been diagnosed with terminal … (4 comments)

positive attitude advice: I'd Give My Right Arm if I Won the Lottery - 03/08/09 07:31 AM
I'd give my right arm to win a Million $$$$$$$$$$ dollars.
How many time have we made that statement or heard it said by others? So many times I can't count anymore.  A few days ago I read an article in Erie Times News (www.goerie.com) about a woman who was awarded $6.7 million to compensate for loss of her right hand in freak medical accident.  Now I hope I never hear it again.
Diana Levine was a musician playing guitar, piano and bass in band and working with children until a 2000 medical accident caused her to loose her hand to gangrene.  The hand … (7 comments)

positive attitude advice: Positive or Negative: I just have to share another positive story - 03/02/09 11:31 PM
Family Bonds: Local authors pen stories meant to inspire
I was hooked into reading this feature story in the Erie Times by the loving smile on Mackenzie's face as she hugged her grandmother.
Let me explain.  Her grandmother is wheel-chair bound and faces forward with the vacant look of person suffering from dementia & Parkinson's disease.  Mackenzie is now a freshman in high school and her grandmother who helped raised her lives in a nursing home.  Their roles have switched.  Mackenzie is now the caregiver dishing out lots of love as her smile suggests. Growing up in the same house the grandmother was home when … (3 comments)

positive attitude advice: UP or DOWN ????????????? - 02/05/09 02:04 AM
Is this an UP day or a DOWN day for you?
The best piece of advice given to me as a new agent many years ago by a well respected, older agent was to 'be positive and surround yourself with positive people.  Use blinders on and ear plugs to block out negative people and negative vibes. Be human and allow yourself to be down for 24 hours then pick yourself up and start over the next day.'  I credit much of my success to her advice and over the years I tried to share her advice with others.
Negative people have … (7 comments)
